Pinch Hits 35-41 (and repost of 2, 7, 10-12, 16, 21, 23, 30)

There are two post deadline PH posts! This is the first one. You can view both at once here (link), and go directly to the second post here (link)

Pinch hits are participants who are without creators; pinch hitting is the practice of volunteering to make a gift for a pinch hit. These pinch hits are all due on October 28 at 11:59PM EDT (countdown), but the due date is flexible if the PHer needs more time. (Edit Ocober 24th: Due dates for claims from this point on are now set for November 1st at 11:59PM EST)

Fic In A Box has a very unusual set of assignment requirements: everyone is owed (and is asking for) 10k of fanfiction, which by default can be given as one 10k+ fic or several 1k+ fics. Participants have also had the option to opt-in to other minimum lengths or to other formats of fanwork. The other fanwork mediums are given word count equivalents, which you can view on the medium guidelines post.

Additionally, PHs can be picked up in 1k increments! Each PH will list how much total is still available in the cut tag and header of that PH.

Finally, in order to pick up a pinch hit you need to either email us or comment on this post (comments are screened) with:

the amount of wordcount you would like to claim (even if you're going to do fanart or some other non-fic opt-in medium, just convert it for us!)
the exact username of the AO3 account you will be posting your fill(s) from (if you post from a different account from the one you give us, we won't be able to count the PH as filled unless you update us!)
an email or Discord ID where we can reach you (you might not be getting the AO3 assignment when you pick up a PH, so we need to know how to contact you in case there are problems!)

Caitlin's been through some things herself, including having a bomb strapped to her. I could easily see her picking up on there being something wrong with Michael. I'd love any sort of take on that, from a gen version up to and including kink (bondage, blood play, pain play?)

I'd also be up for any of the usual “get together” type tropes. Undercover as a couple? Trapped in a snowstorm? Etc.

If that's not your thing, how about some sort of fix-it fic for the way Michael is “transferred” and Caitlin simply disappears at the end of the third season? Any rating is fine. (If you choose to go this route, I'm okay with Dom and/or String being killed.)

The premise of Borgspace is that when various entities are assimilated, sometimes it doesn't quite work, and the (victims?) retain a bit of their individuality. The Borg queen doesn't want to waste these drones, but also doesn't want them to "infect" the rest of the collective, so she assigned them all to one cube and sent them off to the far reaches of the galaxy where they (supposedly) can't cause too much harm.

Various episodes have them dealing with everything from a thinly disguised UPS to religious zealots and the Galactic Wrestling Federation.

You don't need to read all of it to "get" who the main characters are, and how their world operates.

I'd love to see 'more' of Borgspace, whether it be the officers dealing with yet another odd situation, or just some more eccentric crew members.

Dan/Rat balances horrible violation and a growing affection and I'm interested in works that explores that in more detail. I'm open to this being in a sexual context or a non explicit one. In any case, Dan is very touch starved by the time season two comes around and the struggle within him between feeling violated by what Rat did to him versus still liking Rat and wanting his friendship is very interesting. Dan's conviction that Rat gets to go home despite every other person being against it is a great source of conflict. Also a look at how absurd their dynamic is.

Eileen is a fascinating character and I'm endlessly intrigued by her requesting the Hunter "Tell the little doll I said hello." Her and Djura were both, at some point, tied to the Hunter's Dream but unlike the Hunter taking the option to be slain by Gehrman, they were allowed to remember their time there. I have written a messy ship manifesto for these two here because I just have a lot of emotions about them.

Like many players, I have complicated feelings about FromSoft's disposable servant women trope. The Fire Keeper is one of many where as the Doll is a singular entity. The Fire Keeper is human where as the Doll is porcelain. Meanwhile, Kanae and Hiou give each other the respect they both desperately long for. They're both like particularly prickly cats who only like one (1) person, and that person is each other. Plus, Hiou's puppy crush is absolutely adorable, and Kanae giving him the Valentine's day present was just my most favorite thing.

For Ren/Kyoko:
- I'm always always always a sucker for cohabitation fic and all that implies. Running into each other freshly bathed, cooking for each other, running into each other in the middle of the night, Ren helping Kyoko with her homework and Kyoko making Ren eat—plus trying to keep it secret from the paparazzi while keeping up with their jobs.
- Dr. Strangelove ✨💖 @rensbitch69 or: How Kyoko Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Internet. In-universe RPF shipping is a concept that absolutely delights me. How many shared projects would it take for the dorama-watching fangirls to notice the blatant pining between these two? How intense (and prolific) would the shipping flames burn? Would the OG shipper himself participate? ~~Let's not kid ourselves: he's totally a BNF~~.

For Kanae/Hiou
- One thing that struck me on my most recent reread was that Kyoko is to Kanae/Hiou what Yashiro is to Ren/Kyoko, albeit slightly less invested. I'd love to see a fic that capitalizes on that! Maybe Hiou hits his growth spurt and decides to start flirting with Kanae while Kyoko is getting really invested in making the romance happen and Kanae tries to fight her off (and her own growing attraction while she's at it)?
- I adore the 'kid grows up and manages to finally become a romantic interest of the hot older person they were crushing on as a kid' premise (think Penelope - Zak Waters), and I think this ship is perfect for it.

I absolutely adore this movie. My favorite relationships are Cassian/Bodhi/Jyn with Cassian/K-2SO or Cassian&K-2SO alongside Chirrut/Baze, but as you can see from the pairing choices I am pretty open to interpretations.
I love any scenarios where various combinations of the characters survive and go on to experience other parts of the original trilogy. I love watching the characters get a chance to know each other and cement the friendships they had started forming, and watching them figure out each other's traumas and triggers and figure out how to form a team. I am a sucker for case fic where the six of them are out trying to save the universe and each other. I am down for pretty much all the trope fics--I have written the "huddling for warmth/to treat hypothermia", and would happily see more. Hurt/comfort is so delicious with this crew, and so easy to manage given their world and their histories. Give me the team trying to do some kind of spy work together; give me the team having survived the war and trying to figure out what to do next; give me awkward relationships and everyone having enough trauma in their backstory that the guy who betrayed his fascist government and was mind-raped by a squid-creature legit goes "wow, I am by far the most well-adjusted person here". Give me Chirrut helping the others figure out the Force. Give me Baze grappling with his religion; give me the others trying to decide where they're going to come down on it.
In this fandom I am fine with there being dark stuff but I prefer fic to be at least as hopeful as the movie. Give me a sense that sacrifices meant something (and if you can avoid the annoying thing the comics did with "let us slowly murder everyone and everything that actually survived this movie because it worked so well with the main cast, right" I would also appreciate it, I should not still be bitter about the comics but I am). Give me grief and pain and terrible loss, but give it to me as a way to buy hope for the future. I'm all right with rape, torture, non-con, etc. for this movie so long as it's not the main focus of the fic--so long as it's more "this is how we recover" and less "let's just revel in the misery".
I also love seeing ideas of how these six retire. How does someone who's been in this fight since he was six get out of it? How does Baze grapple with his faith when the Jedi are coming back? Feel free to cross over with the original or sequel trilogies. Do they all come back for the fight in the sequel trilogy? How do they feel about it?
I'm all right with AUs for this, though I do adore the canon setting. But fantasy or other sci-fi settings (werewolves! alien biology! wings!) could also be fun.

I would love to see the two of them facing more craziness, be it from old politics or new politics or vengeful spirits or something new. I love the setting of this series so much that I'm not really interested in something that's crazy alternate universe, though I am fascinated by things like "what if Seimei could shape-shift" or "what if Hiromasa gets weird magic/anti-aging abilities from the events of the first movie". Seimei trying to help Hiromasa figure out magic is amazing. Hiromasa getting to play music (or music as magic) is fantastic. Cuddles and the weird way that relationships were viewed in canon era are always welcome. Hiromasa being a delightful bisexual able to love so happily is great. This is another series where as long as you try to hit the canon tone you're likely to be good to go.

Watching or reading this series is a balm to my soul. Natsume has been through so much in his short life, and watching him both recover and find such a good place for himself, both with friends who understand him and friends and family who don't but who love him anyway is so cathartic and heartwarming. There isn't a relationship with Natsume that I don't find fascinating and wouldn't love to see analyzed. Little moments with Natsume and the Fujiwaras would be amazing--are there other small stories where the Fujiwaras are just on the edge of something youkai related, where Natsume seems to know more than them but they accept his word and love him and everyone with him? Are there other times when Kitamoto and Nishimura are similarly on the edge? Or are there moments where Kitamoto and Nishimura are just being good friends to Natsume and he's so grateful and they realize how harrowing Natsume's life has been?
I also love Natsume/Tanuma/Taki trio. I would love to see a little case or series of cases where they're figuring out a relationship, or just something platonic with them. Please let Tanuma be useful and actually feel useful. Let Taki have some good youkai experiences. Let all of them hang out with the youkai who love Natsume. Let Taki have an adventure with Madara! Exploring Madara's past and his feelings for Natsume would also be a lot of fun.
This is one where I'm not really much for a mundane AU, because the world-building in this is beautiful and fascinating and so integral to who the characters are. But feel free to play with tropes that work with the world--huddling for warmth, there's only one bed, a lot of body transformation fic that would work with different youkai powers!

I adore Qrow. He's probably my favorite character. I've sort-of shipped him with Ironwood for a while, because they're such polar opposites who really do both want what's best for the world. It could be a really fascinating and tension-filled pairing, with moments of cuteness and lighthearted teasing that can quickly get into dark issues.
I'm a huge proponent of hurt-comfort for this fandom. These guys are all fighters, and there's plenty of opportunities for them to get injured, plus most of them have enough emotional trauma to last a lifetime. I also love things that play with them after everything's done, speculating on what they might become and what the world might look like afterwards.

This series is something I love, and the relationships between them are all so complicated and beautiful and wonderful. I'm so happy that there's a lot of platonic families figuring out and getting things together that were requested. I would be very happy to have a series of little stories digging into how all the different families come together, and how they react to the Mighty Nein and whatever pairings or polycules you feel most drawn to. What does Luc think of his mother's new friends? How does he react to the different personalities, and what terrible things do they teach him? What things does Veth teach him that Yeza then has to be like "wait, let me try to nuance this to fit into polite company..."? If Yeza and Veth bring someone else in romantically how does he handle that? If it's all platonic with the Nein how do Yeza and Caleb get to know each other more? Do Luc and TJ get to meet at some point? When does Beau get to interact with TJ more? How does she try to protect him from the abuse she suffered? How does she teach TJ about gaslighting?
I also love digging into the complication that is the Traveler and Jester's relationship. How does she look back on events in their relationship? What did he think when he set this up?
I also love the idea of a polycule with Bren and his buddies and it breaking down in the face of the trauma they're all put through. Reflecting on how that would impact Caleb's later relationships could be fascinating.
Hurt/comfort and digging into the way magical healing might affect that is something I love for this fandom. (Are there scars? No scars? Does it depend on the healer? Does magical healing hurt or does it just make the hurt stop? Which is worse?)
Just quiet moments with all of these guys figuring out what they want and starting relationships and having cuddles would be great. I am down for all the tropes here, though also happy for just communication.
Alternatively Frumpkin cuddling everyone and giving opinions on what he thinks should be done, and having the mortals soundly ignore his very good advice because they don't understand it, is something I would love.
I love Caduceus' quiet faith, and would love to see him exploring that with Fjord or Caleb or anyone else, really. I love Jester's joy and verve and sense of humor, and how that's attracted basically two-thirds of her friends romantically but none of them really feel they're good enough for her. I love Beau the disaster lesbian and how she's starting to make friends and figure out a place for herself in the world. Caleb constantly breaks my heart and I love him for it, with his self-destructive impulses and his despair and his absolute love for his new found family. Fjord needs a hug. Veth needs hugs and a house with a teleportation circle so she and the Nein can go adventuring while she can also be a mother. Feel free to play with anything and everything here!

I had so many feelings about Caduceus and his family that just did not get explored in the really short amount of time his family were front and center. I loved that interaction with him and Calliope and the bone flute in particular, and would absolutely love to see more siblings shenanigans, either pre-canon or during or in any other way.

I also have a lot of feelings about Jester's relationships with both the Traveler and her father. I love her relationship with her mother, but it's clear that her other relationships with these others who she would have known/about as a child are...more complicated. I'm looking to explore those, and how they might have changed over time, and fit into her life now.

I also like the idea of the Nicodranas Families becoming the Nicodranas family, with Marian taking in Luc and Yeza at first because of Jester and the M9, and them growing closer as their lives stay enmeshed, both when the M9 are there, and when they're off adventuring and Luc's got some new bad habits from his mother.

I also like the M9's internal group dynamics, and the way they interact with friends like Pumat Sol and Frumpkin is one way to explore and have fun, but also things like the way Yasha and Caleb interact when no one's looking.

For CR I am really not a fan of ships within the M9. I'm not really here for the 'Everyone's in at least half in love with Jester' drama and while I'm coming around to BeauYasha as part of both of their healing, I would still prefer them to be a big group of very close friends or queerplatonic or what have you.

I am also endlessly fascinated with the way that the characters interact with Kayaba, both during and after SAO. Both Kirito and Asuna have strong relationships with the man in very different ways, and he's made an indelible mark on their growth. I just think that's neat.

Also Klein and Sinon in their own ways are fun friends, and I love to see either of them being friends with Kirito, or group friend dynamics at that.

I don't really mind background ships with some of the SAO girls, but please don't make that the focus of a story.

Palpabinks: Did I spend an entire nomination on this trash ship? Absolutely yes. It needs more content, and honestly I just really want help making it. If you do this ship, I'll probably be happy with any reasonably not-crack take on it.

I honestly think Mace Windu is just neat, despite the fact that Star Wars can't agree on how old he is. A story with Mace working with young Anakin, in particular as a Jedi who uses his emotions to create productive change and power. Even go so far as to make him Anakin's teaching master if you like. Or have him working with Obi-Wan and Anakin at the same time, while they're young. I also like him interacting with Obi-Wan as a more mentory-capacity, since Qui-Gon is canonically Not going to help with his premonitions, and also going from student to teacher to a child with trauma is a large jump and he really should be getting some help with that.

I also think that Depa and Obi-Wan are vaguely of an age? And they were both really young when they got on the council about the same time. I think that gives them a place to kick off commonality. Or younger, as two people who both have a connection to the unifying force, which is supposedly uncommon? It wouldn't be strange for them to know each other.

As for Jango/Obi-Wan, if you watched the same movie I did then you can see the chemistry there. It felt pretty clear to me! But take them out of that context and it can still be interesting. Obi-Wan and Jango talking if Jango survived Geonosis? Sure, I'll try that too! Earlier, when Obi-Wan is a padawan? Also fun!

SW: I am familiar with all the nine main movies and rogue one, the clone wars animation (but not rebels!) and the Jedi Apprentice novels. Feel free to mix and mix between these canons (or ignore, it's star wars, that's how it's done).

Okay, so I really really like lineage stuff, feels and otherwise. Whether that's Dooku & Obi-Wan alone during the clone wars, with something being made on any side about Dooku being Obi-Wan's grandmaster, either making things better or giving Obi-Wan a hard time, or invite a bunch of the lineage to include Yoda and Qui-Gon.

I also really like the Obi-Wan & Hondo dynamic, and would love to read about them either platonic or as a ship.

I also like Plo Koon as a person and most of his interactions with Ahsoka were quite fun. I also like the idea of her looking up to him as the person who found her at any stage of her life, whether or not that goes up to him talking about not being her teaching master, or taking her on in that way. But also things like, she clearly went and did some togruta cultural rituals, like the teeth--Plo either being there for that, or her gushing about it to him afterwards.

Oh hoo boy, okay, I'm current and you can expect me to keep current on this as it continues to come out. I'm having a lot of fun with this and I have a lot of feelings. As with other requests, this does lead somewhat heavily towards & pairings, because I feel that there is not enough genfic in the world and I'm always here for a good genfic, but I'm also good with requested pairings.

However, please don't go too heavy on background pairings. With the exception of fics exploring Jon's relationships with various entities, I don't want background jonmartin (although absolutely feel free to exclude jonmartin in those cases as well) in fic centered around jon, and while it's fine to mention like, melanie/georgie or elias/peter or whichever, please do not focus on it. I also have a lot of feelings about Basira/Daisy, and I don't really want to see them as a pair in particular right now even in the background.

I do really like Mike Crew, and I wish we'd have seen more of him. Whether that's more of his relationship with the Fairchilds and the Vast, or with Jon or Martin and the Archives crew in the current day, yes he sent people down neverending ladders but also he offered Jon tea like a civilized person and I have not gotten over that. I bet he makes really good tea. And Simon also is a pretty interesting character. I don't know why, but Vast-aligned characters are fun!

I am also on the crew of 'wow the idea of the Extinction is really cool, too bad it was a red herring-ish?' and am happy to enable the creation of 1001 flavors of the Extinction by requesting fanfic of it. I just love the idea.

On the topic of entities, I like watching Jon wrestle with different ones. I've specifically requested the Web and the Eye here, but feel free to expand that into other entities, I like the idea of our walking buffet of terror interacting with all the different things (oh yay I'm now Jonah Magnus, make of that what you will).

Gertrude/Agnes--well, Gertrude was a bit of a pyromaniac sometimes, 'blow up the archives and all. I don't buy that they never interacted with each other, with the Desolation cult helping Gertrude in ways that never get explored and all of that.

Gerry - He's more than earned his bitterness, to be fair. He's a genre-savvy guy who deserved a more fitting end than 'brain aneurysm' but I like him being sassy with Gertrude or Jon or anyone really.

Annabelle - Another character who did deserve more, although I admit she's a harder one for me to pin down. It seems like she should be able to point at Jon with his initial Web-related marks even pre-canon, or during canon, more than just sending Oliver Banks his way and leaving statements for him to find sometimes. Also, her interacting more with Elias would be interesting--for all that he fancies himself a planner, he's not of the Web (unless...). Anyway I just think that that would be neat!

Martin/Peter circa s4...please nothing fluffy. Peter is a smarmy rich bastard even if he was really doing his best re: the extinction, but him doing his best had negative to do with Martin's best interests and everything to do with his own. Neither of them are in this primarily for the other's positive benefit.
