Every day from tomorrow until reveals I'm going to be posting Reading Lists! These are, essentially, every work in the collection at least once split out by length and medium. This is the schedule that we expect to post those by!

*Other is a catch all for mediums I felt like separating out which only had one or two works. This currently includes Lists, Dress Up Games, Costume Design, Storyboards, Tarot Cards, Tileable Patterns, Heraldic Crests, In-Universe Mythology, In-Universe Reviews, Floorplans, and McMansion Hell. This list may expand later.

Other dates to keep in mind

December 10th: Post late treats by 10pm EST on the 10th if you want to guarantee they're added to lists that'll be posted on the 11th-15th. The mod who does spreadsheety stuff will be on a work trip that week and may not be able to add new works to those lists while travelling.
December 15th: Post late treats and recs by the end of this day EST to guarantee they'll be on the next day's list! Functionally you'll have until late the next day but not the full day.

Rec Post

This post is for anyone to post recommendations from the 2023 collection! There are currently 984 works in the collection, so it's a lot to go through and also a lot that could be highlighted! You can choose to post things for whatever reason you want, and can post as many different recs as you want. There is no minimum number of recs that need to be in a post, so if you have one thing you want to highlight you can post that one! You also may post anonymously.

Your posts need to have some indication of what you're reccing (so not just a list of links), but otherwise how much information you include is up to you! Suggestions of things to include:

Fandom
Title
Medium
Category (e.g. m/m)
Warnings
Relationship or characters
Tags
Summary
Why you're reccing it (or, alternatively, if you're posting a list on a theme, include the theme/trope/kink at the top of the list!)

(The list above is just suggestions of things that someone might want to see while browsing and not a list of required information!)

And of course, don't forget to link to the work(s)!

On December 16th we'll be making a reading list of any recs here that wish to be included. If you wish for your recommendations to be included in that reading list, please have "Include in final reading list" somewhere in your post.

Unfortunately, once again we've been hit by the reveals bug. What this means is that some works which were accepted into the collection and should currently be revealed based on their status and collection setting are still unrevealed. This most commonly affects works which were approved close to reveals. If your work is unrevealed and you have not already been contacted by the mods, this is definitely you!

Even more unfortunately, this isn't a thing that we can fix as mods. Sometimes we can unapprove and reapprove something to "shake it loose", but so far this year that hasn't worked, which means it's up to you!

If you're affected by this, you have two options for fixing it:

Reposting

If you delete and repost the work, it should go into the collection normally. Remember to get everything you might need from the work before you delete!
You can post directly to the collection by using the "Post to Collection" button here: https://archiveofourown.org/collections/Fic_In_A_Box_2023/profile and adding your recipient on the "Gift this work to" line.
If it has reposted correctly, the work will immediately reveal but be anonymous. It won't show that's it's in the FIAB collection until we accept it, which we will try to do asap!

Collection shuffling

You can switch the work into another anonymous collection and then add it back to the FIAB collection.
When editing the work go to the "Post to Collections / Challenges". Hit the x besides "Fic_In_A_Box_2023" and add "Anonymous (anonymous)".
Hit "Post"
Go back in to edit again, and perform the above step in opposite order to add it back to "Fic_In_A_Box_2023". You can remove it from the Anonymous collection simultaneously or later if you'd like to.
Hit "Post"
If it has been shuffled correctly, the work will be revealed and anonymous. It won't show that it's in the FIAB collection until we accept it, which we will try to do asap!

Reveals!

Works have revealed! Creator reveals will be on December 16th at 11:59pm EST. Reading lists will be posted from December 4th to December 15th, with a schedule going up either tomorrow or on the 4th! (Later edit: Reading lists will be starting on the 5th!)

You can still post late treats! The collection will be moderated until Creator Reveals, and then left open and unmoderated after that, so there's no deadline on treating! If you're looking for people to treat, head to the following two places:

We've had a few users report issues with viewing images hosted on imgbb.com, so if you've hosted any images there you may want to reupload them! If you can see them on your own work, click through to see if you have a cached version. If you received a gift you cannot view let us know and we will email your creator!

Other things:

If you delete a work, even if it's a treat, please let the mods know! We can see if the count doesn't match our spreadsheet but not which work was deleted, so until we find it everything will go on hold.
We will be temporarily closing the collection 1 hour before reveals. This is to (hopefully) avoid the reveals bug this year. It will be reopened a few minutes after reveals!
The collection will remain moderated until creator reveals on December 16th at 11:59PM EST.
If you're participating in Triple Crown, you can post works towards that until creator reveals.
We will be posting Reading Lists again this year, starting on December 4th and going until December 15th! On December 16th we will post a roundup of works posted in the anon period (you may opt out of this if you want to) and participant recs.

Pinch Hits 1, 6, 12, 13, 31, 37, 48, 51, 56, 97

Pinch hits are participants who are without creators; pinch hitting is the practice of volunteering to make a gift for a pinch hit. These pinch hits are all due on December 1st at 11:59 EST (countdown).

Fic In A Box has a very unusual set of assignment requirements: everyone is owed (and is asking for) 10k of fanfiction, which by default can be given as one 10k+ fic or several 1k+ fics. Participants have also had the option to opt-in to other minimum lengths or to other formats of fanwork. The other fanwork mediums are given word count equivalents, which you can view on the medium ruleset post.

Additionally:

Fic In A Box creators may default after partially filling their assignment—say, if they discover that they can only write 9k of fic—and PHs can be picked up in 1k increments!
You may always swap all or part of your assignment for a PH, just let us know that's what you're doing when you post to claim the PH.
In the future we'll include details in the post, but for this post we're linking to the app for that to keep the post size down!

One Week Delay
