This year is going to be a short wrapup from the mod end!

Please let us know if you have any feedback or requests! This post is the best place to discuss things you feel might need adjusted (or things you absolutely want to stay the same) since it's where we check for feedback. There are a few things I asked for specific feedback about, but please feel free to post about anything!

Schedule Changes

• Next year the editing period will be 4 weeks again.
• Initial Pinch Hits won't be going out until after swaps are done next year (just to make swaps slightly easier on us!)

Medium Changes

• The Template ruleset (the one where you make a blank template of a thing and give it to someone as a specific gift to them) is going to be going away. While it has been requested, it's not one that gets filled and mostly just causes confusion with the two template related things that do get done (works in the writing ruleset that get credit if you make a template for them, and community templates!)
• Adding a typographic design ruleset: We had some questions about typographic art, e.g. for propaganda posters that are graphically designed but don't contain drawings. This will be a separate ruleset from art but otherwise should have basically the same rules. There will be a ruleset from the start but mediums that you want to create or request in this style will need to be nominated. If none are nominated then we'll remove the ruleset.
• "In-Universe Ship Manifesto (the transit kind)" will be corrected to say "manifest" instead of "manifesto".
• Length and Medium tags will be adjusted so they have the same opt in/opt-in hyphenation.

Medium Changes - Feedback Needed

• Cross Stitch and Knitting Patterns:
  • Counting stitches: I'm going to make y'all do this next year
  • Background colors: I'm going to make it a rule that background colors (e.g. the colors that would usually be white canvas for cross stitch) won't count towards credit. I will need to phrase it in such a way that it does not exclude for example the main color of emblems, so if anyone has an idea of a clear way to phrase that please let me know! If what I mean isn't clear I will try to explain better!
  • The other alternative to the above is to add a wordcount cap per piece. If that would work better for you guys, let me know!
  • Otherwise, how did the 5 words per stitch wordcount work for everyone?

Rec Post

This post is for anyone to post recommendations from the 2022 collection! There are currently 771 works in the collection, so it's a lot to go through and also a lot that could be highlighted! You can choose to post things for whatever reason you want, and can post as many different recs as you want. There is no minimum number of recs that need to be in a post, so if you have one thing you want to highlight you can post that one! You also may post anonymously.

Your posts need to have some indication of what you're reccing (so not just a list of links), but otherwise how much information you include is up to you! Suggestions of things to include:

• Fandom
• Title
• Medium
• Category (e.g. m/m)
• Warnings
• Relationship or characters
• Tags
• Summary
• Why you're reccing it (or, alternatively, if you're posting a list on a theme, include the theme/trope/kink at the top of the list!)

(The list above is just suggestions of things that someone might want to see while browsing and not a list of required information!)

And of course, don't forget to link to the work(s)!

On December 3rd we'll be making a reading list of any recs here that wish to be included. If you wish for your recommendations to be included in that reading list, please have "Include in final reading list" somewhere in your post.

Other things:

• We will be temporarily closing the collection 10 minutes before reveals. This is to (hopefully) avoid the reveals bug this year. It will be reopened a few minutes after reveals!
• The collection will remain moderated until creator reveals on December 3rd at 11:59PM EST.
• If you're participating in Triple Crown, you can post works towards that until creator reveals.
• We will be posting Reading Lists again this year, starting on November 21st and going until December 2nd! On December 3rd we will post a roundup of works posted in the anon period (you may opt out of this if you want to) and participant recs.
• There will be a Recs post for you to post your own recommendations from the collection. You will be able to opt into having your recs included in a Participant Recommendation Reading List

Pinch Hits: new fandom for 13 and 64, repost of 3, 9, 14, 15, 19, 24, 77

Pinch hits are participants who are without creators; pinch hitting is the practice of volunteering to make a gift for a pinch hit. These pinch hits are all due on November 17th at 11:59 EDT (countdown). (Update!) PHs picked up after the 15th are due November 18th at 11:59PM EST

Fic In A Box has a very unusual set of assignment requirements: everyone is owed (and is asking for) 10k of fanfiction, which by default can be given as one 10k+ fic or several 1k+ fics. Participants have also had the option to opt-in to other minimum lengths or to other formats of fanwork. The other fanwork mediums are given word count equivalents, which you can view on the medium ruleset post.

In order to pick up a pinch hit you need to either email us or comment on this post (comments are screened) with:

• The amount of wordcount you would like to claim (even if you're going to do fanart or some other non-fic opt-in medium! If you aren't sure what the equivalent would be, we'd be happy to help you convert it!)
• The exact username of the AO3 account you will be posting your fill(s) from (if you post from a different account from the one you give us, we won't be able to count the PH as filled unless you update us!)
• An email or Discord ID where we can reach you (you might not be getting the AO3 assignment when you pick up a PH, so we need to know how to contact you in case there are problems!)
