Links: Tagset | Relationship Field Nominations Guidelines | New Mediums Nomination Post

This is our last nominations clarification post, and all tags have been processed! If you don't see your tag(s) in the tagset at this point, they are either the subject of outstanding queries or rejected...unless we messed up! Please feel free to comment on this post if you think we lost your tag in the google sheet or rejected your tag by accident. AO3 nominators, please include a link to your nominations form if you're asking about rejected tags.

We would also still be very thankful for any tagset clean up help! Comments about that can go here too. If you discover that there's a tag you really need that's not in the tagset, please hold on to it until we get the late nominations post up with instructions.

Usual clarification info: Nomination clarifications are queries and updates about tags we find confusing. The goal of nominations is to create a tagset of unambiguous, easy to understand tags that will be useful to participants and solidly within the scope of the exchange.

Tags are separated by query vs rejection notice, form vs AO3 nomination, and then by fandom. You can respond anonymously to this post or logged in. If you are not the nominator but have relevant fandom knowledge about something, please speak up! If you have questions about nominations not covered in this post, please ask!

Queries

Google Forms nominations

  • The Sandman (TV 2022): WB: Fate of dead dreamers (The Sandman 2022) — This has proved pretty much impossible to google, and we're not sure what it means. Is it "fate" as in destiny, or as in "what happens to them"? Are there dead dreamers in canon, and what does that mean?
  • The Sandman (TV 2022): WB: Helm of Desire of the Endless (The Sandman 2022) — This has also been impossible to google. Is this a helmet literally worn by this character, or does "helm" mean something different in this context?
  • The Sandman (TV 2022): WB: Helm of Despair of the Endless (The Sandman 2022) — This has also been impossible to google. Is this a helmet literally worn by this character, or does "helm" mean something different in this context?
  • When Harry Met Tom - The Carnivorous Muffin (Exchange Disambiguation): Mental!Harry & Horcrux!Tom Riddle (When Harry Met Tom) — Is "Horcrux!Tom Riddle" a separate, canonical character from regular Tom Riddle? How are the two characters related in this fic? Additionally, how does "Mental!Harry" relate to Harriet Potter? (Also applies to the other Horcrux!Tom Riddle tags, but for the sake of brevity we won't list them all).
  • When Harry Met Tom - The Carnivorous Muffin (Exchange Disambiguation): WB: Black Family Drama (When Harry Met Tom) — Worldbuilding tags are for exploring specific, concrete aspects of canon; this tag is too vague for us to accept as-is and is really phrased more like a prompt. What kind of Black Family drama is the nominator looking for?
  • When Harry Met Tom - The Carnivorous Muffin (Exchange Disambiguation): WB: Patronus Reactions (When Harry Met Tom) — We're not sure what this tag means; could the nominator elaborate?
  • When Harry Met Tom - The Carnivorous Muffin (Exchange Disambiguation): WB: Quidditch Details (When Harry Met Tom) — Worldbuilding tags are for exploring specific, concrete aspects of canon, but this tag is really vague. Nominator, which Quidditch Details were you hoping to recieve worldbuilding about?

Ao3 tagset nominations

  • Biohazard | Resident Evil (Gameverse): WB: Exploring Transhumanism in the RE Setting (Biohazard) — We're worried that this will net you a gift where transhumanism is a theme but not explored as a worldbuilding topic! We'd like to approve as "WB: Transhumanism in the RE Setting (Biohazard)" or "WB: Exploring In-Universe Transhumanism in the RE Setting (Biohazard)" or something similar.
  • Biohazard | Resident Evil (Gameverse): WB: Player Character Gets Infected by a Bioweapon & isn't cured in time (Biohazard) — If we remember correctly this is a canon event (a bad ending for the game?) but we think that this is phrased too much like a prompt. What kind of worldbuilding are you hoping for in this situation?
  • Crossover Fandom: Jyn Erso (Rogue One) & Rogue Squadron (Star Wars Legends Books) — This will be moved to Star Wars - All Media Types with the other Star Wars crossovers.
  • Crossover Fandom: WB: Narnia (Narnia AMT) & Fillory (Magicians TV) — We appreciate this nomination sticking to just locations, but we wanted to ask the nominator if they would prefer to elaborate. Although we do our best to keep nominations from sounding like prompts, we're willing to bend a little to make sure a nomination is clear and makes sense in Crossover Fandom. For example, we allowed the tag, "WB: Dwarves (Stardew Valley) are Dwarves (Dwarf Fortress)". We'll accept as-is if the nominator is happy with the ambiguity, though.
  • Star Trek: The Next Generation: The Goddess of Empathy/Deanna Troi (ST: TNG) — Does Star Trek: TNG have a canonical Goddess of Empathy?
  • The Orville (TV): WB: Hijinks of a Kaylon Visiting the Union After the Signed Treaty (The Orville) — This worldbuilding tag is phrased too much like a prompt. What specific worldbuilding are you hoping creator(s) will focus on? Something about Kaylon diplomatic relationships with the Union after a treaty is signed, maybe, or general public opinion of the Kaylons after the treaty signature?
  • Tomb Raider (Video Games): Lara Croft/Ancient Guardian of a Tomb She's Raiding (Tomb Raider) — Does this canon have canonical ancient guardians? If so, is this a canonical, specific guardian?

  • Q.E.D. - All Media Types: WB: Eva's Sabotage (Q.E.D.) —
  • When Harry Met Tom - The Carnivorous Muffin (Exchange Disambiguation): WB: Harry Breaks Theoretical Limits of Magic (When Harry Met Tom) — Worldbuilding tags are for exploring specific, concrete aspects of canon; this tag is too much of a prompt or plot suggestion for us to accept.
  • When Harry Met Tom - The Carnivorous Muffin (Exchange Disambiguation): WB: Harry-as-Unwitting-God Antics (When Harry Met Tom) — Worldbuilding tags are for exploring specific, concrete aspects of canon; this tag is too much of a prompt or plot suggestion for us to accept.
  • When Harry Met Tom - The Carnivorous Muffin (Exchange Disambiguation): WB: What Happens in OG Timeline (When Harry Met Tom) — Worldbuilding tags are for exploring specific, concrete aspects of canon; this tag is too much of a prompt or plot suggestion for us to accept.
  • 魔道祖师 - 墨香铜臭 | Módào Zǔshī - Mòxiāng Tóngxiù: WB: The Yiling Laozu's Reputation Through Time (MDZS) — This tag has been accepted as "WB: The Yiling Laozu's Reputation (MDZS)" because the "Through Time" part is really a prompt that should go in optional details.

Ao3 tagset nominations

  • Crossover Fandom: Quentin Coldwater & Margo Hanson & Alice Quinn & Eliot Waugh (Magicians TV) in Narnia (Narnia AMT) — This tag was already in the tagset, but has been removed — per nomination guidelines, we actually wanted fandoms instead of canonical locations at the end of tags like these, so this tag has been replaced with "Quentin Coldwater & Margo Hanson & Alice Quinn & Eliot Waugh (Magicians TV) in Narnia AMT"
  • Crossover Fandom: Quentin Coldwater/Eliot Waugh (Magicians TV) in Westeros (GOT) — This tag was already in the tagset, but has been removed — per nomination guidelines, we actually wanted fandoms instead of canonical locations at the end of tags like these, so this tag has been replaced with "Quentin Coldwater/Eliot Waugh (Magicians TV) in Game of Thrones"

  • Original Works: Desperate Superhero Whose Life is in Danger/Supervillain He Reluctantly Goes to for Help (OW) — This tag is in the tagset, but so is "Desperate Supervillain Whose Life is in Danger/Superhero He Reluctantly Goes to For Help (M/M) (OW)"! We would like to either replace this tag with a gender neutral version or, if the nominator prefers, switch to a different gender configuration to distinguish it from the M/M tag. If we don't hear from the nominator, we'll go ahead with the gender neutral version before sign ups open.

Desperate Superhero Whose Life is in Danger/Supervillain He Reluctantly Goes to for Help (OW) — This tag is in the tagset, but so is "Desperate Supervillain Whose Life is in Danger/Superhero He Reluctantly Goes to For Help (M/M) (OW)"!

I'm not the nominator, but aren't those different tags? The first is a Superhero getting help from a Supervillain, and the second is the other way round. Or am I misunderstanding?

Not the nominator here, but in the first queries post, there was an enquiry about the Mapp and Lucia series (all media types). I'm thinking of offering and/or requesting it, so have been keeping an eye out on the tagset, but so far it hasn't appeared there-- is this an accident or did the original nominator change their mind about which fandoms to nominate?

The Orville (TV): WB: Hijinks of a Kaylon Visiting the Union After the Signed Treaty (The Orville) — This worldbuilding tag is phrased too much like a prompt. What specific worldbuilding are you hoping creator(s) will focus on? Something about Kaylon diplomatic relationships with the Union after a treaty is signed, maybe, or general public opinion of the Kaylons after the treaty signature?

The very last episode ended with Kaylons getting invited to a Union marriage from one of their peers, and hijinks followed due to complete cultural mismatch (as in, the whole fleet arrived, looking like they were coming to wage war, because it was reasonable to them).

The worldbuilding I was aiming for was exploration of situations seeing Kaylons (an AI based species) visiting more of the Union places and events now that they are getting vetoed to be part of the Union themselves, and they meeting with more expected cultural barriers and causing more hijinks in the process. Diplomacy seems restrictive, as it could be any kind of visits other than official ones. Just visiting because unofficially invited to private events, or in an attempt to understand more of the biologics' lifestyles, their rituals and cultures, and so on. I tried to word it so that it read as open to interpretation as I could. Any better options? Maybe WB: Post Finale - Crosscultural Hijinks (Incidents?) of Kaylons Exploring the Union (Cultures??) (The Orville)? Other options?

When Harry Met Tom - The Carnivorous Muffin (Exchange Disambiguation):
Mental!Harry & Horcrux!Tom Riddle (When Harry Met Tom)
Horcrux!Tom is the Tom that lives in Harry Potter's head from the first timeline. He is now out and about in the latest chapters via patronous charm, though Harry found out he existed a good few chapters before that. That would explain the other tags.
Mental!Harry is the Harry that, uh, for lack of a better explanation main character!Harry doesn't know about. These two have been keeping each other company in the depths of mc!Harry's mind for a decade, 15 years ish if you count how long Horcux!Tom's been there.
It's a Carnivorous Muffin work, existential surrealism kind of thing.
WB: Black Family Drama (When Harry Met Tom) — The whole "Alphard is Gay" and Lucretia and Orion snipping at him in both timelines, family bickering, politics, Sirius situation, Sirius-in-teen-rebellion situation, Lucretia-and-society situation. We get glimpses and explanations of these mostly from Horcrux!Tom explaining to Harry. Would "WB: Pureblood Politics" work better for you?
WB: Patronus Reactions (When Harry Met Tom) — What is a patronus normally, I guess. Can this get combined with WB: Harry Breaks Theoretical Limits of Magic (When Harry Met Tom) — for "WB: Theoretical Limits of Magic" or something? I think this counts because we canonically know about some of the limits, it's just we're mostly working from Harry's perspective who doesn't. It'll rule out some of the other patronus aspects, but that's probably not a big deal overall.
WB: Quidditch Details (When Harry Met Tom) — We get one really great Quidditch scene, a lot of Quidditch Politicking, and a lot of the decisions for the politicking comes down to the verbiage and precedent. The substitution, season loan are mentioned specifically as allowed because of precedent. What do the Hogwarts by-laws and rules say? Or the state of brooms and tech in 1942 vs 1994 or something.

Hello! I'm the nominator of "WB: Narnia (Narnia AMT) & Fillory (Magicians TV)". Fillory and Narnia are really similar places in terms of magic and monarchy and various other stuff, so I guess I was interested in those overlaps and the important distinctions between them, too. I really am happy with the creator to go in whatever direction strikes their fancy--like, if they want to write about how the Pvensies get to Narnia through a Wardrobe and the Chatwins get to Fillory through a clock, that sounds great! If the creator wants to talk about how the high kings and queens of each place are chosen, that's great too! So there's not really a specific element I prefer too much over the other? But if you'd prefer more specific things I can definitely offer up a couple!! I have a lot of thoughts on it lol.

(I'm also the nominator for the various Magicians folks in other canons noms, and thanks for letting me know about the change! Totally makes sense 👍)

The Sandman nominations.

WB: Fate of dead dreamers
I was thinking in the sense of what happens to people (or well, any creature that can dream) when they die while dreaming. Dream's second raven in the series, Matthew, is canonically a human who died while dreaming and so turned into a raven. I wanted something that explores this sort of situation and couldn't think of a way to word it. "Consequences of dying while in the Dreaming" maybe, but I'm afraid that would imply dying in a dream rather than dying while dreaming.

For both of he helm ones, I was trying to think of a word of the place? kingdom? domain? aspect of existence? they rule over/represent and was blanking out. I realize now that for Dream I should have just used The Dreaming as it's named, but Desire's domain I don't think has a canon name. I wanted something about the way they work but ended up too broad, if there isn't a better way to frase this is fine to delete as there's already plenty of good sandman wb tags.

Do you mean realm? Because helm is something you steer, like on a ship, but your description definitely fits realm.

Hi mods! I have a question about one of the medium nominations in the tagset: Medium Opt In: Writing - Non-Linear Narrative

I'm a bit confused by how this is meant to work because I don't feel like "non-linear narrative" is a separate "medium" the way something like "bureaucratic paperwork" or "in-universe fan letters" would be. Plenty of fanfic is non-linear or has flashbacks, that seems to me like a perfectly standard subset of the kind of narrative fiction we're all asking for by default. Does that mean I have to request this medium if I'm okay with that? Does it mean that I have to write a 100% linear story for anyone who doesn't explicitly opt in to this? That seems very restrictive.

Apologies if this has already been answered elsewhere. Thanks for all your hard work!

And I'm pretty sure there's a typo or spelling mistake in one tag in Star Wars the Clone Wars. The tag:

should probably be:

Nara Shikako (DoS) & Haruno Sakura (Naruto)
Nara Shikako (DoS) & Hatake Kakashi (Naruto)

actually, on checking, it looks like both of those *are* in crossover fandom but *also* currently are under naruto as well for some reason!

Hi! I don't want to be a bother, but I noticed that there are some fandoms with no relationships in the tagset:

Magic in Manhattan - Allie Therin
Danny Phantom
The Power of the Dog (2021)
내부자들 | Inside Men (2015)
L.A. By Night (Web Series)
N.Y. By Night (Web Series)
Cougar Town
From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series
Ghost Whisperer
Narcos: Mexico (TV)
Outlander (TV)
The Punisher (TV 2017)
SEAL Team (TV)
Unavowed (Video Game)

I didn't nominate any of them, so I don't know if the lack of relationships is what the nominator(s) intended, but I wanted to flag them in case they're a sign that something went wrong.

Just saw that The Mummy (1999) and The Mummy (Movies 1999-2008) are both in the tagset. They should probably be squished together into The Mummy (Movies 1999-2008) because they aren't separate fandoms and the The Mummy (1999) noms have characters who don't exist in the first movie.

I don't know if this is the right place for this, but when I was working on my signup I discovered a typo I made to a nom. The existing tag is Derek Hale//Stiles Stilinski/Derek Hale.
