Nomination clarifications are queries and updates about tags we find confusing. The goal of nominations is to create a tagset of unambiguous, easy to understand tags that will be useful to participants and solidly within the scope of the exchange.

Tags are separated by query vs rejection notice, form vs AO3 nomination, and then by fandom. You can respond anonymously to this post or logged in. If you are not the nominator but have relevant fandom knowledge about something, please speak up! If you have questions about nominations not covered in this post, please ask!

General fandom queries

• Critical Role (Web Series) and Exandria Unlimited (Disambiguated for Exchanges) ‐ Do Critical Role fans want us to split Critical Role up by campaign this year? Last year it was all or mostly under the same fandom tag, but we're getting the sense that a split might be preferred. Please let us know!

Google Forms nominations

• Dragalia Lost (Video Game): Solo: Epilogue Euden (Dragalia Lost) — "Epilogue" seems like a description of a period of time. We don't allow distinction between versions of characters like that, so we will probably have to accept this tag as "Solo: Euden (Dragalia Lost)" unless this is actually some kind of canonical alternate universe version of the character.
• Dragalia Lost (Video Game): WB: Epilogue Kingdom of Alberia (Dragalia Lost) — We're not totally sure what this nomination means! Does it mean worldbuilding about this Kingdom after the events of the canon's epilogue, or during the canon's epilogue, or something else? Could the nominator find a way to phrase it that references in-universe events instead?
• Fire Emblem: Rekka no Ken | Fire Emblem: Blazing Sword: WB: Tribes of Sacae (Fire Emblem: BS) — The Tribes of Sacae sound like a group of people to us, rather than a worldbuilding context. Could the nominator help us flesh this worldbuilding concept out to specific what exactly about the Tribes they're interested in? For example the culture, or politics, or so on? You can put several worldbuilding concepts in the same nomination — our goal is to make it clear that this worldbuilding tag requires something more than just the Tribes showing up in a fic to fulfil the tag.
• Made in Abyss (Manga): WB: Bondrewd’s Research (Made in Abyss) — This nomination appears to be related to one specific character, Bondrewd, so it would probably be better served as a prompt in a Solo: Bondrewd request. Alternatively, the nomination could be reworked to be slightly more broad! Please let us know.
• Mapp & Lucia - All Media Types: "Quaint" Irene Coles/Emmeline "Lucia" Lucas — Is the "All Media Types" version of this fandom definitely the best fandom tag? It looks like AO3 has put the book(s) and the 2014 movie under this tag without allowing any subtags, but if the nominator has a book vs movie preference, we would be glad to accomadate!
• Mapp & Lucia - All Media Types: Solo: Emmeline "Lucia" Lucas — Is the "All Media Types" version of this fandom definitely the best fandom tag? It looks like AO3 has put the book(s) and the 2014 movie under this tag without allowing any subtags, but if the nominator has a book vs movie preference, we would be glad to accomadate!
• One Piece: Solo: Pre-W7 Strawhats (One Piece) — This appears to be a nomination for a particular point in time for a group of characters, which we can't accept. Is this the case (in which case we can either reject or edit the tag to just "Solo: Strawhats") or were the Pre-W7 Strawhats a distinct, canonical group?
• (Edit: this tag was mistakenly marked rejected, but this is just a query!) The Falcon and the Winter Soldier (TV): Karli Morgenthau/Original Female Character(s) (FatWS) — I know that the "Character(s)" part of this is probably from an AO3 canonical tag that you got out of the drop down and we are happy to approve these as-is, but I wanted to check with the nominator if you actually want one or multiple romantic interests or if you would be happier if these ships all just read "Original Female Character" instead?

• Glorantha: All tags — According to Wikipedia, this is a setting rather than a specific piece of media. The fandom tag you nominated isn't a canonical. Could you please let us know what the canon media is for these characters?
• Havenfall is for Lovers (Visual Novel): Mackenzie Hunt/Main Character (Havenfall is for Lovers) — Does the main character of this visual novel have a default name? If so, we would like that name to be reflected in your nomination.
• Infinity Train (Cartoon): WB: Babies Born on the Train (Infinity Train) — This worldbuilding nomination is a little too close to a group nomination for us and we want to make sure you get actual worldbuilding instead of just a fic where a baby shows up. Could we help you brainstorm a slightly more specific tag? For example, maybe you're interested in the medical care that infants recieve, or the logistics of taking care of babies on a train, or the social role of new mothers etc? You can shove several related ideas into the same nomination, for example "WB: Medical Care/Logistics For Babies Born on the Train"
• Love & Legends (Visual Novel): Solaire Lightwing/Main Character (Love & Legends) — Does the main character of this visual novel have a default name? If so, we would like that name to be reflected in your nomination.
• Original Work: Werebroccoli which is like a Werewolf but Broccoli/Werewolf Hypnotist (OW) — We're in love with this nomination, but is the Werewolf Hypnotist a werewolf who hypnotizes people, or a hypnotist who specializes in werewolves?
• Paintings - James Christensen: WB: 6 Bird Hunters in Full Camouflage (James Christensen Paintings — This nomination is about characters, so we think this year it would actually be better as a group nomination. Alternatively, we'd be happy for the nominator to rephrase it to focus on some aspect of worldbuilding, such as the culture or traditions of the bird hunters.
• Suicide Squad (Movies 2016 2021): Rick Flag & CIA Assets He Dated But Shouldn't Have (Suicide Squad Movies 2016-2021) — Unfortunately this is more of a prompt/more specificity than we are willing to allow in an original character nomination outside of Original Works. We are willing to accept "Rick Flag & CIA Agents" or (if Rick Flag canonically, definitely dated them) "Rick Flag & CIA Agents He Dated" to help you specific which canonical CIA agents you mean.
• Sweet Enchantments (Visual Novel): Liora Skyheart/Main Character (Sweet Enchantments) — Does the main character of this visual novel have a default name? If so, we would like that name to be reflected in your nomination.

• Star Wars - All Media Types: Solo: Any Character (Star Wars - All Media Types) in The Book of Boba Fett — This is being moved to "Star Wars: The Book of Boba Fett". Star Wars AMT should be reserved for nominations that don't fit in a single Star Wars subfandom due to either involving characters from multiple subfandoms or being incredibly broad topics which you are happy to get any version of Star Wars for (including videogames, comics, obscure books, etc.) Anything for a specific Star Wars subfandom needs to go under that tag.
• Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi (TV): Obi-Wan Kenobi/Darth Vader (Kenobi) — For this subfandom "Anakin Skywalker" and "Darth Vader" nominations are being combined to avoid confusion and prevent duplicates. This nomination is in the tagset as Obi-Wan Kenobi/Anakin Skywalker | Darth Vader (Kenobi)

Worldbuilding imports from last year's tagset

• Ragnarok (TV 2020): WB: Gods and Giants (Ragnarok TV 2020) — This nomination has been removed from the tagset — it was originally ported over with the rest of the fandom's tags from last year. Gods and giants are characters, usually, so this doesn't meet our newly codified worldbuilding guidelines! We are happy to re-add a related tag that expands on what kind of worldbuilding is wanted about these characters. Under ideal circumstances we will hear from either last year's nominator or the person who asked for this tag to be transferred over this year, but anyone with information on this fandom is welcome to reply! We will add multiple new WB tags if people would like.

Dragalia Lost (Video Game)

I nominated both of these! The epilogue takes place in a canonical alternate universe. Epilogue Euden has a different background, and Epilogue Kingdom of Alberia was intended to refer to the AU kingdom as a whole. I'm fine with changing the "Epilogue" part if that will reduce ambiguity - something like "Rebuilt World" would probably be the most accurate option.

As the Infinity Train nominator, I was thinking about both the logistics of taking care of babies/children on the train and also the way being born onboard would interact with the mechanism to leave the train - short background, you need the magic number tattoo given to you by the train in a specific car most passengers don't know about to hit zero and open a door that only works for you to leave the train, and a baby born on the train wouldn't get one because all the train's mechanisms for looking for humans on it seem to assume you've gone through the whole boarding process and have a number.

In terms of tags I guess that might be something like "WB: Logistics of Caring for Children Born on The Train and Getting Them Off It" ? If this is too prompt-y I'd be fine to split it into the proposed "WB: Medical Care/Logistics For Babies Born on the Train" and something like "WB: Logistics of Numbers/Exits for Children Born on the Train" or even just a "Group: Original Characters Born on the Train" tag.

Blazing Sword nominator here! For "Tribes of Sacae" i was interested in both cultural and political dimensions--the "nation" of Sacae is actually made up of several independent nomadic groups on a continent that's otherwise agrarian monarchies, and it seemed like a perfect setup for cultural and jurisdictional conflict. You could change the tag to "International Relations with Sacae" or "Sacaen Diplomacy"; the main thing I want to get at is how these differences are negotiated.

Re One Piece: my goal was the 7 members of the early grand line strawhats (Luffy, Zoro, Nami, Usopp, Sanji, Chopper, Robin) without "&"-requiring all of them, and without Franky or Brook or Jimbe who join later. If it's not possible to request the 7 of them without it being the 10 of them, I guess just switch it to solo: Strawhats

I was the original nominator for The Twilight Zone's WB request for the mannequins (and the person who asked the tags to be transferred from last year). The mannequins are characters--well, they're also objects, but they're mannequins who turn out to be able to move and who get to take short turns being human from time to time. I'd be happy with either a general WB: Culture of "The After Hours" Mannequins or, if it would be better to have more specific tags, WB: Sex Among "The After Hours" Mannequins, WB: "The After Hours" Mannequins' Time as Humans, and WB: "The After Hours" Mannequins' Department Store Life.

Hi, I'm the person who nominated the "Solo: Any Character (Star Wars - All Media Types) in The Book of Boba Fett" tag. I was trying to nominate a crossover appearance of any Star Wars character (from any other media than TBOBF) in TBOBF - e.g. someone from KOTOR, or the X-Wing series, or the comics... should I nominate something like that in the "target" fandom, so to speak? From the google form instructions it felt to me that since I want anyone from the wider universe and it's an intra-universe crossover, "Star Wars - All Media Types" was where it belonged.
