Part 1! New fandoms for PH 11 (and repost of 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, 17, 19, 23, 28, 34, 35, 44, 46, 48)

Pinch hits are participants who are without creators; pinch hitting is the practice of volunteering to make a gift for a pinch hit. These pinch hits are all due on October 31st at 11:59pm EDT, but that due date can be set to later if needed.

Fic In A Box has a very unusual set of assignment requirements: everyone is owed (and is asking for) 10k of fanfiction, which by default can be given as one 10k+ fic or several 1k+ fics. Participants have also had the option to opt-in to other minimum lengths or to other formats of fanwork. The other fanwork mediums are given word count equivalents, which you can view on the medium ruleset post.

Additionally:

Fic In A Box creators may default after partially filling their assignment — say, if they discover that they can only write 9k of fic — and PHs can be picked up in 1k increments!
You may always swap all or part of your assignment for a PH, just let us know that's what you're doing when you post to claim the PH.

Some of my favorite things to see in fic are hurt/comfort, loyalty, conflict, angst, secrets and masks, adventures, disasters, darkness, iron woobies, platonic intimacy, humor, complicated relationships, time and change, memory, pining, and worldbuilding elements related to places, cultures, and histories.

Thoughts and Prompts

One thing I love about this show is how well-meaning and yet deeply flawed both of the main characters are, and the continual strain of politics on their friendship. There are some intense loyalty tropes here, right alongside a lot of deception and mutual distrust and conflict. I love seeing how they struggle to sustain the fiction of an equal friendship in spite of the massive power imbalance between them, and how it becomes increasingly difficult to make out how much of what they show each other is genuine and how much is performance.

I basically love every single canon interaction between these two, so if you just want to expand on a scene or event that happened, or a different version of an event that happened, or a different time when the same thing happened again, or whatever, those are all great. :) I like the fluffy scenes where they’re just fooling around or getting up to mischief together; I like the darker scenes where their trust issues, identity issues, or power-dynamic issues take the foreground.

Prompts:

• These two come from very different worlds, and I love seeing them try to connect, successfully or not. I’d love to see a story about some instance of this — e.g. maybe Wai Siu-bou is willing to let the Emperor give him some basic reading/writing lessons, or teach him to play chess? Or, on the other side, maybe the Emperor is willing to let Wai Siu-bou get him drunk, or teach him to play dice?

• So there’s that one scene where Wai Siu-bou rushes to the Emperor’s room in the middle of the night, and the Emperor tells the guards to let him in, and then invites him to sleep there. Does Wai Siu-bou ever take him up on this offer? (I mean, it’s hardly the only time these two end up staying up late together in the Emperor’s quarters — especially since it looks like Wai Siu-bou, as the Emperor’s personal attendant, ends up at least temporarily with duties like helping him dress and undress...)

• I love all the scenes where either character gets very protective or solicitous about the other one, and as you may have guessed from my "likes" list, h/c is one of my favorite tropes, so basically I’ll be delighted with any excuse you can come up with for one or the other of these two to be in some kind of distress — physical, emotional, mundane or fantastical, however plausible or implausible. Honestly my all-time favorite fanfic trope is just your standard run-of-the-mill h/c setup where one character is ill or injured and the other one helps them recover or just stays with them while they weather it out. Plot totally optional. The Emperor is ill and summons Wai Siu-bou to his room because he wants company/diversion? The Emperor finds out Wai Siu-bou is injured and pays him a visit in his quarters? The Emperor accidentally hurts Wai Siu-bou during a wrestling match? Wai Siu-bou finds out the Emperor hasn't been sleeping well and wants to help?

• I feel like there are potentially any number of "trapped together" plots just waiting to happen here, what with our heroes regularly sneaking around together all over the palace compound, especially at night. It might be fun to see them sneak around just for the adventure of it, for once?

• I’d love to see a post-canon reunion between these two, maybe many years later, when they’re older and have lived very separate lives. Maybe Wai Siu-bou ends up in some new crisis or under arrest, and the Emperor gets wind of it and decides to intervene? How would they react to seeing each other again? How estranged would they be, or how naturally would they fall back into familiarity? How easy, or difficult, would it be for them to separate again?

• Wai Siu-bou seems really proud of his massage-giving skills, and rather eager to try them out on the Emperor — who, for his own part, doesn’t seem all that resistant to the idea (except maybe insofar as they happened to be outside and potentially in public view at the time). Further development on this topic?

Thoughts and Prompts

• I’d love to see what sort of mischief these two usually get up to when they’re not busy dealing with palace intrigue or national politics. They apparently spend time together in the Upper Library nearly every day, and the Emperor also seems to rather frequently invite Wei Xiaobao into his private quarters. What are they up to?

• It’s noted repeatedly that the Emperor dislikes being cooped up in the palace and envies Wei Xiaobao’s freedom. Meanwhile, Wei Xiaobao seems to have no trouble at all smuggling people into or out of the palace gates even in broad daylight, as long as he can dress them up as eunuchs or guards or whatever. Would he consider trying to smuggle the Emperor himself out for a few hours, in pursuit of some adventure, or just for a visit to town? Would the Emperor be tempted by such a possibility?

• Sort of reversing the above: there’s a scene where Wei Xiaobao has a talk with a eunuch in the kitchens and hears that as a rule of the palace, no "rare or unusual food" can be offered to any of the imperial family (because "if one of them were to suffer the slightest little sickness after eating it, it would be off with our heads"); the eunuch says he's worried that the Emperor has "the curiosity of youth" and might be perilously attracted to foreign and exotic experiences. Now, granted, what Wei Xiaobao is actually up to is a lot worse than anything the eunuch suspects — but regardless of that, this whole exchange kind of makes me want to see him actually sneaking exotic food (or really any other forbidden/exciting thing) into the palace for the Emperor (who as usual has to rely on his street-urchin friend to supply the adventures his attendants keep trying to protect him from).

• On a similar note, just in general I’d love to see instances of Wei Xiaobao corrupting the Emperor with low-class or forbidden amusements, e.g. gambling, cursing/obscenities, drinking, ribald storytelling, sneaking around the palace, etc. With whatever result, really.

• So, the wrestling scenes in this novel certainly involve a lot of, uh, entanglement and mutual gazing? And mutual obsession? E.g. "For both boys their daily [wrestling] bouts became something of an addiction: if they missed a day they became positively unwell." Which, apart from being a hard-to-resist shipping invitation, also suggests that they did, at least occasionally, miss a day, with... like, actual health consequences? I confess I want to know more about all of this.

• It would be great to see some kind of hurt/comfort between these two, or any variation on the trope. They seem well set up for it. Kangxi, in spite of being very controlled and dignified in front of everyone else, often gets quite emotional around Wei Xiaobao, and seems to generally look to him for support when he has any problems. Wei Xiaobao also has his own sources of angst, and on top of that he spends like 80% of the novel in some condition of recent injury or under the influence of some kind of poison.

I'd love to see worldbuilding related to places, cultures, histories, people, objects, or scenes in this canon. :D More details, canon links, etc., are in my letter!

Thoughts and Prompts

• I love the historical aspects of the novel, and am not at all familiar with this period of Chinese history otherwise, so any kind of historical details you can introduce into a fanwork would be amazing, whether that means sketches of period-typical costuming, architectural details or floorplans, a hierarchy of court titles, dice game rules, or a meta discussion of anachronisms in some particular scene or plot arc. In short, if you’re someone who has historical knowledge about 17th-century China and would enjoy putting it into some kind of fanwork format, please do!

• I’m also happy to get completely fictional worldbuilding! There are a lot of events and objects that get hints of backstory but are never fully explained in the novel. For example, what exactly is the history behind the impenetrable vest that Wei Xaobao acquires from among Oboi’s possessions? Or the seemingly magical knife? What’s the story with the German priest Schall, whose life the Emperor says he saved when he was ten years old? Backstory about Hai Dafu and the Old Emperor’s retreat to the mountains? What happened to the scholars from the opening chapter?

• Sort of combining the above, I’d love to see fanworks in the form of “historical” documents that treat the canon as history, whether from a post-canon or canon-concurrent timeframe — e.g. a memorial to the throne from Cao Yin, a page from a history text, or something like information cards from a museum display of artifacts from the events of the novel (Wu Sangui’s marble screen, the golden bowl Shi Lang gives Wei Xiaobao, the crystal dice the Emperor sends as a gift, etc.). Or other kinds of documents? Folk ballads about Chen Jinnan? The imperial doctor’s medical report on Dolong after his stabbing?

• I’d be interested to see journals, memoirs, or letters from minor characters who live in the palace complex (including random unnamed guards or eunuchs or maids), or other people who might be privy to information we don’t get in the novel. This could tie into worldbuilding about particular locations or items or processes (the workings of the Imperial Catering Department, the assortment of weird poisons in Hai Dafu’s medical box) or it could be an outsider-viewpoint angle for looking at either the Emperor or Wei Xiaobao (or their relationship, if you want to blend this request with my pairing requests—but I’m totally fine with just a perspective on one or the other of them individually, too).

For this fandom, I’m very happy with both slash and gen takes on Kirk and Spock’s relationship, or with Kirk-Spock-McCoy as a suspiciously-intense-gen sort of OT3. I love Kirk being a mess—the times when he gets overconfident and it bites him in the ass, when he doubts himself or questions his own motives or fears he’s losing control, when he gets reckless and Spock or McCoy has to step in and do damage control. I love the continual tug-of-war between reason and feeling, as it plays out both externally between Spock and McCoy and internally for all three of them.

I love all the moral ambiguity and dubious choices on the show, and Kirk’s relentless obsession with the idea that mankind “wasn’t meant for paradise” but for challenge and struggle. I love Spock being eminently Vulcan, or trying hard to be Vulcan under difficult conditions, or being maybe not actually as Vulcan as he thinks. I love McCoy sputtering over either or both of them being idiots.

I also love pretty much any ridiculous plot device that results in Spock collapsing and Kirk holding him up or carrying him around. Vice versa is also good. Variations involving McCoy—also good!

PROMPTS:

• As far as hurt/comfort goes, I’ll take whatever you’ve got, whether it’s canon-typical crack-taken-seriously (giant brain-cell viruses! zapped by sentient electrical forcefields!) or something more realistic or slice-of-life (Kirk angsting over perceived personal failures or past traumas, Spock emphatically Not Angsting and definitely not having illogical human emotions or identity crises, McCoy having to practically force medical attention on his superior officers who think they’re indestructible, any of them hiding injury/illness because there’s a crisis going on and they can’t step down from their posts right now...)

• Relatedly, anything with Kirk having to make hard moral choices or reflect on them, conflict between official responsibilities and personal relationships, handling disasters, losing control of the ship... basically whatever you want to arrange to give him a hard time.

• I'd love to see some kind of Lovecraftian cosmic horror take (or Borgesian dark-magical-realism take, or whatever) on this fandom. Surely if there’s anywhere you’re going to find truly eldritch and alien abominations, or utterly mind-destroying unfathomable otherness, that place is in space. I’d be up for the whole crew (or any subset thereof) being part of this.

• For more of a slash focus, maybe something with Kirk and Spock navigating their rather different personal needs, emotional and otherwise. One of the things I really enjoy on the show is how both of them seem so highly attuned to each other despite their differences, and how far each of them seems willing to accommodate the other, even if it doesn’t come naturally. But I’d also be interested to see times when these efforts failed, or times it went too far and became uncomfortable for the party doing the accommodating.

• Sort of related to the above, I like the idea of exploring the interspecies nature of their relationship from Spock’s viewpoint, with Kirk as the one who seems “alien” and difficult to fathom. Granted, Spock grew up with a (very) human mother—but it does seem like his upbringing was essentially Vulcan, and there are at least moments when Kirk appears to be a genuine enigma to him. (The reverse, with Kirk having feelings about Spock’s alienness, is great too.)

• Post-original-series, the end of the five-year mission: the Enterprise is no longer Kirk’s ship, his crew is being split up/decommissioned, Spock is going back to Vulcan (WHY?)... I can’t help thinking Kirk would not handle any of this very well. How does it play out? (Unhappy/ambiguous endings are totally fine, though by no means required.)

• I really love the idea of the Phantom Bazaar, and was disappointed that we see so little of it in the film. Spooky underground city, caves, underground rivers, Stygian ferryman, creepy magical black-market bazaar, all in an ancient wuxia setting with shape-shifting and monsters... I want a whole miniseries just about this. Anyway, I’d be happy to see any story or other media that further develops the Underground City, whether in terms of its physical features or its culture, inhabitants, visitors, merchandise, history, etc. It seems like Di Renjie is already pretty familiar with the place, but we never hear anything about why. What brought him there before?

• More specifically, I’d love to see a post-canon story about Di Renjie living in the Phantom Bazaar. Is there any hope that he can be cured? Is Wang experimenting to try to cure him? What is Di Renjie doing in the meantime? Has he retired? Is he still solving mysteries? Is Wang teaching him the ways of transfiguration?

• Casefic! This could be post-canon (maybe Di Renjie has been cured, or maybe he’s just working at night and/or remotely from within the Phantom Bazaar), or it could be canon-concurrent, if you want to expand on the case that he solves during the film (or have him on some other side case at the same time, or whatever). Magic and monsters are canon here, so mythical or horror-tending mysteries are welcome!

• Please tell me why Di Renjie has so many hats. (I love all of them.)

• If you've seen the prequels, pre-canon fic, whether casefic or otherwise, would be great too. Di Renjie (with or without Shatuo) must have had plenty of other adventures during the ~12 years between the end of the second prequel and being charged with treason. I'm open to his relationship with Shatuo as either platonic or slash, if you want to keep them together.

• Following from that last thought, one idea in particular: In the second prequel, Di Renjie develops some kind of mysterious illness that is never explained, and never really relevant to anything. When asked about it at the end of the film, he says it’s caused by a "demon" inside him. (The way the final battle plays out might lead one to infer that an internal "demon" must be a metaphor for hatred, but there’s never any indication that Di Renjie hates anyone, so... ???) Anyway, whenever Di Renjie has any kind of serious bout of this mystery illness, Shatuo has to look after him, which is an invitation to h/c if I ever saw one. How is Di ultimately cured?

Note on Ships
I don’t really have any ships for Red Dwarf. I do like Rimmer/Nirvanah, but I’m also not super attached to it either. I would love a crossover ship using Rimmer and a female character from one of my other fandoms in a crossover ship but considering Rimmer’s personality I can see most spectacularly blowing up (and it probably would be Rimmer’s fault). So, while I would love a ship, I would also be completely happy with gen. Some of my favorite female characters are Felicia Hardy, Lorna Dane, Wanda Maximoff, Jean Grey, Madelyne Pryor, Kara Danvers (Arrowverse), Kara Zor-El (New 52-Present), Laurel Lance, Earth-2 Laurel Lance, Aerith Gainsborough (FFVIIR), Ezri Dax, Drusilla. And if there is another character you can think of, I’d be happy to answer through the mods a yes or a no.

General
My two oldest fandoms are Star Trek and Red Dwarf. I love all but one episode. The only one I don’t like Krytie TV. Rimmer has always been my favorite character in it, but I don’t dislike any of the leads (though I do have a slight preference for the female Holly over the male Holly).
I feel the most important part of Red Dwarf is the friendship between Lister and Rimmer. I feel that Me2 is the real beginning of the two of them starting to become friends. Thanks for the Memory is also great seeing the characters partying together. Marooned is such great interaction between the two. I love how Dimension Ship shows that Rimmer has the capability of being a much better person. Holoship is great showing that Rimmer can love someone enough to do something selfless for them. Terrorform is a great look into his psyche. I loved how he was willing to fight in Out of Time. Stoke Me a Clipper was great in how it showed that Rimmer was able to be like Ace. While I miss the hologram Rimmer in season 8, it really highlighted how much the hologram Rimmer had grown when compared to the human Rimmer. I kind of wish there had been a scene in season 8 of Kochanski emphasizing with Lister over how the human Rimmer wasn’t the hologram Rimmer that Lister had become friends with, like how the main Lister isn’t her hologram Lister. The Beginning is one of my favorite episodes and I love how Rimmer comes up with the strategy that saves them all. Considering how quickly Rimmer switched to calling Dungo his father, it makes me wonder if Dungo had been kind to young Rimmer. I loved the Promised Land. I loved seeing how much it hurt him when Cat insisted that Rimmer wasn’t the real Rimmer since he is a hologram. The moonlight discussion between Lister and Rimmer is one of my favorite scenes in the show. The Promised Land really highlighted how much he has grown since The End. I can’t imagine season 1 Rimmer giving up his power up to save Kryten or not taking advantage of the cats worshipping him.
Rimmer is a really complicated character. He’s a smeghead, but he has a good heart inside. He had a really horrible, horrible upbringing and any halfway decent CPS should have pulled him out of that house. But despite how bad his upbringing was, Rimmer is still responsible for what he has done too. He’s grown as a character so much over the course of the show. There have been setbacks and slides back, but the difference between The End Rimmer and The Promised Land Rimmer is huge. He can be nasty and cowardly, but he’s also capable of being brave and noble.

Kirio Amy/Suzuki Iruma

I love how this relationship starts as this really wholesome friendship and school festival preparation, except Kirio turns out to be a bit messed up and wants to blow up everyone.

I’m okay with the potential story happening at any point in the canon. I would love both a story set before the festival while Kirio is still hiding his true colors or a story set after it. Maybe Iruma runs into Kirio somewhere after he escapes prison and instead of calling an adult, he tries to stop Kirio from causing trouble on his own. As for pre-festival story. Maybe some upperclassmen steal important parts from the club and Iruma and Kirio set out to get them back.

Naberius Callego & Suzuki Iruma

I love Callego for being a much better take on Snape than original Snape ever was. The second the series made Callego Iruma’s familiar I knew this was about to get good. And it was. I love how Callego slowly warms up to Iruma, even if he is still allergic to his and Sullivan’s antics. I love that Callego is actually a competent teacher who cares about his students, but at the same time he would rather eat a whole lemon than admit it out loud.

For prompts, maybe Sullivan ends up having an important business and Opera isn’t available so he dumps looking after Iruma on Callego for a few days. Or Iruma is struggling with studying since so many things are new for him, so Callego ends up forced to help him catch up with the material (if you are following manga inclusion of Balam is always welcome). Or maybe Iruma gets into usual trouble ends up stranded somewhere and the only one he can call for help is his familiar.

Crocell Kerori | Kuromu/Gyari

One of the last thing I expected to get this year was a canonical yuri romance in this manga, but here it is and it’s perfect. I love how it is pretty much built on mutual pining. I love how Kuromu loves Gyari, but refuses to reciprocate her feelings, because she knows that she needs to remain unattainable to keep their relationship alive, and I love how Gyari is never ever going to give up.

I would love to see more of the time when they worked together. We know it was love at the first sight for Gyari, but I would love to see how Kuromu’s feelings grew. Those hours they spent together practicing, maybe a not-date where they sneak together to scout a venue where they will be having their first big concert, or maybe a small contest that would sow the seeds for their future rivalry. I would love any and all of it. Also, Gyari doesn’t seem to be aware of Kuromu’s civilian identity, so I would love a story where Gyari meets Crocell Kerori rather than Kuromu. AUs and ships

I love the worldbuilding around the demon world, so I would ask that if you decided to write an AU that it still incorporates demons. I would definitely love an AU where rather than getting summoned to demon world, Iruma accidentally summons either Kirio or Callego into the human world. Maybe Iruma’s parents try to use him as an offering, but instead he ends up bound to a demon. I would love to see Kirio excited to unleash suffering (even if his weak powers severely limit him in that regard) onto human world just to discover that he made contract with the biggest pacifist possible. Or Callego being torn between wanting to return home as soon as possible (he has classes to teach!) and wanting to somehow help the weird human child that just keeps getting into trouble. Any other demon-focused AU is also welcome. For Gyari and Kurmou, maybe one of them is a human who ends up summoning the other as a demon. How different would their relationship be then? I’m also fine with any sort of AU divergences scenario. Maybe Iruma keeps accidentally sabbotaging Kirio’s terrorist plans without realizing it. Or Iruma ends up summoning Callego more often as his familiar when he gets into trouble. What if Gyari also attended Babylys.

As for ships, I’d rather avoid any love triangle scenarios for this canon, so please focus on just one pairing per character (competing for Iruma’s attention is normal for this canon, I’d just rather not see outright romantic competition). It’s self-explainatory for Kirio request, but if you want to include some shipping elements into the other requests I also ship Iruma/Ameli and Callego/Balam.

Or outsider POV on how Vivy’s and Matsumoto’s actions shape the world. Them turning off the plant producing new androids and the subsequent suicide would definitely get coverage. I would love to know how the whole thing was officially explained. Are there conspiracy theories on the Internet? Sisters are involved in every major incident, would people suspect something?

I love how this manga is a slow-paced fantasy dealing with loss and inevitable passage of time. And I love Frieren for being one of the best depictions of an elf whose long life actually affects their outlook on life and actions.

I would equally love the insight into Frieren’s present with her charges and the past with hero party. What other shenanigans they get into on their journey? What kind of weird magic Frieren pursued? I would love to see more of her mentoring Fern and Stark. I also love to see her interactions with the hero party. Maybe some more insight into how they fought with demons, since Frieren seemed to have picked up a number of enemies during that time. For some more specific prompts: maybe Frieren accidentally stumbles ona cursed item that erases her memories (or just her memories of Himmel). How would it affect her? What would the party do to help her? Or maybe a demon kidnaps someone from Frieren’s party?

Feel free to include any other characters, they are a colorful bunch.

I’m fine with AUs as long as Frieren’s long lifespan is preserved. Her perspective is very much shaped by how long she has lived, so I wouldn’t want that aspect to change. One exception would be, a roleswap where Himmel is an elf, while Frieren is a human, and exploration of how both of them would be affected by having a different lifespan. An AU with mythological creatures or similar could be interesting.

I would very much love Himmel/Frieren, though I also enjoy how the manga softly builds on their connection. I also enjoy the budding romance between Fern and Stark.

There definitely was some trial and error and I would love to see that.

Shiranui/Kinnara

That pairing came out of the left field for me, but I absolutely love the interactions the two of them had so far. I would love to see them meeting more, their feelings growing each time they see each other. I also feel like a story where they keep meeting each other in a dream would really fit them, as they would long to finally meet each other in reality.

I’m fine with any AU. A modern AU with archer Hakuro and gardener Kusa would be cute. Or a dancer Shiranui and a musican Kinnara. Alternatively an AU where one of the two is onmyoji could be very interesting.

Also I’m always a sucker for Kratos and Lloyd awkwardly trying to rebuild their familial bonds. What if Lloyd went with Kratos after all? What would happen if they ran into each other again.

Stahn Aileron & Leon Magnus

I would love more of Leon’s utter suffering as he searches for a way to turn his best friend back into human, so people stop thinking he’s crazy whenever he tells his sword to shut up. I would love to see him reunite with Crestoria’s main cast and getting annoyed at how chaotic they are. Or running into Sorey again. Honestly, I would love seeing him interact with pretty much anyone, and grumpily helping them kill monsters/do charity/etc. Or exploring Stahn’s and Leon’s past. I would love to see their childhood and how they grew to be such a good friends.

I haven’t played Destiny, so please give me context if you want to include any elements that aren’t in Crestoria.

Velvet Crowe/Milla Maxwell

I thrive on the twisted codependency those two have in Crestoria. I will take both good, tragic and/or ambiguous ends for this relationship. Whether Velvet decides to forgive Milla or kill her it will be great. Give me all those twisted emotions, the hesitation, and pain both of them are carrying.

For straightforward approach, maybe the two of them stop in a town while chasing the last Incarnation and Milla decides to throw a party (because it’s some sort of festival, or maybe she found out it’s Velvet’s or Laphicet’s birthday and wants to make some amends however small). Or maybe one of them gets hurt during the fight with an Incarnation and the other ends up nursing them to health.

For some more levity, maybe Velvet and Milla ran out of money and pick up some side-job to have enough money for an inn. Maybe they work as waitresses and are both great and terrible at it at the same time. Or they have to take care of kids. Any other amusing job is also good.

I’m fine with any AUs, though for Stahn&Leon request I still want Stahn to be the sword. I’m okay with Stahn turning human (or from human to sword) in the course of the story or being human when showing his past with Leon.

I would love to explore any part of the setting really. I especially love the various interesting connections Servant have with each other that might not be obvious at first glance (like the fact that Iskander is also a pharaoh). I’m just fascinated by all the intricate historical connections. I would also love to see how some Servants would react if they were taken to Singularity/Lostbelt/Event they weren’t a part of.

Alternatively I would love to see exploration on how different the protagonists upbringing is from other mages especially given how bad they are at magic. We get some of it with Crypters (I loved how frustrated Kadoc was at the fact that the protagonist is even worse at magic than him), but I would love to see more of it. Maybe some Servants try to teach protagonist magic or prepare them for interactions with Clock Tower mages.

I’m fine with both male and female protagonist. Feel free to do anything from a serious character exploration to zany antics. I love both moods FGO jumps between, you can’t go wrong with that. Historical context always welcome. I’m fine for any usual suspects when it comes to plot ideas: be it training simulator shenanigans, “oh no we lost comms and are stuck in Singularity”, Moriarty scheming, to someone wanting to make Master happy in their own special, dysfunstional and/or possibly destructive ways

Lin Chen /& Mei Changsu
Ok, I have no idea what’s going on between these two but whatever it is, I love it. I adore the way that their method of showing care for each other is relentless bullying. Mei Changsu is able to smile and be mischievous when Lin Chen shows up in the show near the end, and that is beautiful.
On the other hand, I am also a huge fan of the angst potential where Lin Chen doesn’t understand why Mei Changsu is so eager to die for his country (because living is harder) and has to deal with being unable to cure his friend. That scene where Lin Chen is eagerly planning a road trip for them and their son as Mei Changsu decides to grimly march off to war? Breaks my heart. I love it. Some ideas I think would be interesting to look at:
-for once, Mei Changsu isn’t the one that needs to be looked after, Lin Chen is. Mei Changsu gets to be on the other side of the ‘friend/patient is being awful and won’t just sit down and heal, but insists on actually straining himself for reasons I feel are Inadequate, but he won’t listen to me’. Mei Changsu hates it. Lin Chen, when he isn’t trying to hide how awful he feels, is smug.
-A pre-canon jianghu adventure! Perhaps both of them need to go undercover but Lin Chen isn’t taking it seriously? Maybe they get kidnapped, forcing the poor kidnapper listen to them bickering instead of being adequately intimidated by said kidnapping? Maybe there is a friendly rivalry between members of the Jiangzuo Alliance and Langya Hall and Mei Changsu and Lin Chen are both vicariously competing (and actually competing) through their subordinates?
- Maybe Lin Chen could be kidnapped as leverage against Mei Changsu, at which point Mei Changsu shrugs and waits fifteen minutes until the kidnappers are begging to give Lin Chen back?
-I am a huge fan of platonic soulmates and I would love for these two to be soulmates and be incredibly annoyed about it. Perhaps misunderstandings could occur in part due to misunderstandings about the nature of soulmates?

Mei Changsu /& Jingyan

-Identity porn? All the identity porn! The amount of delicious delight I get the amount of subterfuge going on between these two is…well it’s a lot. I have genuinely shouted at the screen while watching (later episodes especially) for Mei Changsu to just tell him, omg. I do love stories where Jingyan figures out who Mei Changsu is and then proceeds not to tell anyone. Jingyan being competent is something that I love to see.
-Fei Liu needs to be babysat, Jingyan volunteers and then regrets it. Alternately, Mei Changsu intercepts an assassination attempt etc against Jingyan and lends Fei Liu to Jingyan as a bodyguard under the pretence of him needing a babysitter while Mei Changsu goes out and Wrecks the would be assassin and their sponsor
-Jingyan genuinely appreciates Mei Changsu (amoral strategist ™) and Mei Changsu suddenly realises that his plan to keep Jingyan at arm’s length has failed epically. Cue breakdowns over how he’s a stain on Jingyan’s future government etc while Jingyan is just patiently picking out books that he thinks that Mei Changsu would like
-Jingyan meets Mei Changsu pre-canon. Mei Changsu wasn’t expecting this! (for once). All his plans are ruined! Mei Changsu scrambling to salvage things, because I love Mei Changsu but also I love bullying him a lot (he deserves it after everything he puts his friends through).

I just love them so much. Meng Zhi is a very good friend but also a terrible liar when he has to directly lie to someone (who’s not the emperor). I would love to see something with both of them plotting together, possibly with a person not in the know (Jingyan? Yujin?) in the background!

Mei Changsu/Mu Nihuang/Xiao Jingyan

I realised as I was signing up that the character tag for this relationship was only Lin Shu (and not Mei Changsu | Lin Shu (| Su Zhe) but I am happy for iteration of him!
-Mu Qing decides that he definitely wants his sister to get married to that Su Zhe/Mei Changsu guy and tries to set them up (locks them in cupboards, makes increasingly obvious references, hires some bandits to ‘attack’ them so that Nihuang can show off…). Meanwhile, Mei Changsu, Nihuang, and Jingyan have been in a relationship for a while now and are just chilling.
-I would love polyamory negotiations where they actually all talk with their words about their relationship! Truly the most alternate of universes.
- timetravel! Somehow Jingyan and Nihuang are dropped into the past, somewhere in those twelve years after Meiling but before canon starts. From thereon they are the ones with all of the knowledge whereas Mei Changsu is just left spluttering in confusion as all of his plans are overturned. Alternately all three of them travel back together and, with the benefit of hindsight and also honesty, are very competent together and manage to work together for a better future.

Ming Cheng & Ming Jing & Ming Lou & Ming Tai
Ok, but this family. Honestly, I felt very meh about the romances in the show but each and every family scene hit me like a freight train, I love them so much
-maybe Ming Jing DOES find out earlier. I would love to see all the staged fights between all the siblings. Ming Jing looks like she was having fun when she got to take part in them and honestly she deserves to be part of this as well.
-An alternate universe set at some point not around WWII. Ming Tai attends a new university far, far away from his family. When he gets there he realises that Ming Jing has decided to concentrate on the (wherever he ends up going) branch of the Ming Company for however long he’s there, Ming Lou is the new vice chancellor of the University and ah-Cheng is one of his lecturers. It would be hilarious if a fan club for ah-Cheng sprang up just to see the mortification on Ming Tai’s face
-Aunt Gui is the Worst (although I feel sorry for her and what she went through, she also took out her anger on an innocent child). I would love to see Ming Jing, Ming Lou, and Ming Tai realise this and work together to get rid of her because they can see that her being here is negatively affecting ah-Cheng
-all of the Ming family is vastly too self-sacrificial for their own good and I would love to see something that explores all of them trying to fall on their own swords for each other and being thwarted.
-Ming Jing and Ming Lou took in two young children to raise when they themselves were still teenagers. I would love to see a pre-canon fic exploring this!
Ming Cheng & Ming Lou
-the fact that the two of them trust each other so much is just beautiful. I would love to see more scenes of them working together to convince various organisations that they’re on the outs while smirking at each other from across the room
-alternately I would love to see them use their competencies for something utterly mundane, like arranging for Mint Tai to go to university somewhere or organising Ming Jing’s birthday
-do you know what Ming Lou getting yet another job and ah-Cheng just rolling his eyes in disgust and following would be amazing.
-It would be amazing to see something where for once Ming Lou and ah-Cheng are the ones in trouble and they just have to sit there and wait to be rescued for once.
Ming Lou/Wang Tianfeng
I don’t know whether it’s just me, but I watched the two of them meet onscreen to talk about the ‘death plan’ and I immediately thought that they had this huge vibe of ‘disgruntled exes who had a terrible break up years ago and still aren’t over it’.
-something about Ming Lou and Wang Tianfeng meeting at pre-canon. They seem to have vastly different philosophies in canon and I would love to see an exploration of when they first realised that.
-Ming Lou and Wang Tianfeng arguing properly, just bringing up all the wrongs of the past however many years while ah-Chang and Guo Qiyun are hovering in the background and shooting each other commiserating looks. So, canon basically, but if you get any interests in expanding it further or adding more scenes I would love to see them!

-ok, Yi Xiaochuan’s hair grew out incredibly quickly for the amount of time it was meant to have been in-universe. I would love to see things exploring perhaps not just hair but also clothes etc in general. Does Yi Xiaochuan know how to deal with long hair? Did he have to go to one of his elder brothers and shamefacedly request help? What about clothes? When he joins the court he starts having to wear court clothes, are they more complicated to wear?
-Yi Xiaochuan somehow managed to get electricity (and a phone charger lol) up and running in the Qin empire. I would love to see more of this kind of thing! All of the modern day appliances that he tries to make!
-Yi Xiaochuan throughout history. Perhaps he accidentally creates a village and now there are legends going all around the place and people searching for this legendary immortal…
-we have this magical amulet that only seems to activate at the most plot convenient moments. I would love to see something more to do with the amulet. Is it protective? Can Yi Xiaochuan actually learn how to harness its powers? Maybe it’s sentient?

Gao Yao & Yi Xiaochuan

These two start out as friends and then become bitter enemies, but they are also the only ones who are from the same time. I would love to see stories exploring this more!
-Gao Yao and Yi Xiaochuan meet up slightly earlier than in canon. Cue them trying to figure out how the hell to behave in the Qin Dynasty. Maybe one of them is a huge fan of period dramas and has an idea of how to behave, only to find out that oh no, those period dramas weren’t that well researched and now they’ve mortally insulted everyone
-The two of them are mortal enemies yes, but sometimes they just call a stalemate and hang out because who else is going to commiserate with them about missing pot noodles or the internet?

Jin Zixuan/Jiang Yanli & Meng Yao | Jin Guangyao
Jin Guangyao is not a good person. He really, really isn’t. But I still love this murder gremlin? He is a bundle of ambition, stress, sleep deprivation, and murder topped with a ridiculous hat. Please feel free to take this one opportunity to ignore my ‘no character-bashing’ DNW here when it comes to Jin Guangshan. He is a terrible father and person and I dislike him immensely
-I would love to see an alternate universe where Meng Yao | Jin Guangyao goes to Lotus Pier instead of Qinghe Nie and become Jiang Yanli’s friend. Now Jin Zixuan has to both a) apologise and convince someone who he’s, frankly, been pretty awful to to marry him while also, b) figure out how he feels about having a brother. I would love to see Jin Zixuan jealous that Jiang Yanli is a better older sibling than he is and also that Meng Yao knows how to talk to Jiang Yanli without becoming a stammering ball of nerves.
-Jiang Yanli wants to save her family, thank you very much, and she knows that the best way to do this is by getting Jin Guangyao on her side and working against his father. Jin Zixuan is undergoing severe disillusionment about how awful his dad is. Jin Guangyao has no idea why his new sister-in-law is being so nice to him but he really likes it please don’t stop.
-Jin Guangshan dies just after the Sunshot Campaign and now Jin Zixuan is thrust into being Sect Leader despite not being ready for it at all. Luckily both his new wife and his new brother are both politically savvy. Jiang Yanli gets to be badass with a smile. Jin Guangyao gets all the power of running a sect but none of the public-facing bullsh*t.
-Jin Zixuan and Jin Guangyao accidentally swap bodies. This could be:
-Pre-canon! Before they know of each other’s existance. Luckily for Jin Zixuan, Yunnping is relatively close to Lotus Pier so he ca at least get some help for this problem…
-Just after Sunshot! The two of them have to work together, Jin Guangyao taking advantage of the situation to better his position at Koi Tower while Jin Zixuan takes advantage of Jin Guangyao’s ability not to stick his foot in his mouth at every opportunity. They both try and fool Jiang Yanli but she figures it out in 0.05 seconds and then helps them both.

Lan Xichen & Lan Sizhui

Sizhui is very much like both his parents, but honestly he reminds me most of Xichen. I would love to see something with the two of them spending time together.

Xiao Xingchen
-I want to know more about Baoshan Sanren’s mountain! What goes on there? What does living on an immortal mountain actually look like?
-I would love to see something where all of Baoshan Sanren’s disciples can do somethings absolutely Strange (glowing? Attractive to small animals, à la Disney princess? No dust touches them despite wearing absolutely normal clothes? Sometimes when they’re not concentrating they just hover in the air without having to use a sword?) and the rest of the world (Song Lan, a-qing, xue Yang, Wei Wuxian, Lan Wangji… anyone really) is very ????? about it while Xiao Xingchen just assumes that everyone he meets just has a better control and that’s why they’re not showing it.

Jin Ling & Lan Jingyi & Lan Sizhui & Ouyang Zizhen

-Do you know what I think would be hilarious? Lan Sizhui having to impersonate either of his fathers or Lan Xichen for some reason. Maybe he’s in a remote village and there a Dispute ™ that both sides absolutely refuse to resolve without the presence of X so Sizhui is forced to step up to the plate. The rest of the gang ‘help’ as much as possible. Maybe Zizhen provides (pnly slightly embroidered) backstory? Jin Ling gets press ganged into verifying Sizhui’s fake identity? Jingyi things that it’s hilarious!
-I really love time travel fics where it is the Juniors who go back in time and just??? Completely mess with everything. Integrity of the timeline? What is that? Can’t you see our parents/uncles are going through a war here?

-what’s an emperor’s role in any drama. To cause problems. I would love to see how many problems the emperor can cause when there’s Chen Pingping by his side
-The Emperor is shameless in his PDA with Chen Pingping. Fan Xian, the Emperor’s son, can’t take the second hand embarrassment any more. The ministers can’t take it any more. An interventions has to happen. For the good of the country. Only… carefully. Because they are still the two scariest people in the empire.
-One of the Emperor’s favourite pastimes is watching Chen Pingping intimidating ministers. The two of them have a good time on a date routing out corruption (at least corruption that doesn’t benefit them) in the most dramatic way possible
-the Inspection and Control bureau is HILARIOUS I would love any interactions between them and the court, possibly in the form of Chen Pingping and the Emperor being approached by incredibly annoyed nobles/merchants/guards/that one guy selling cabbage and being of no help whatsoever in reigning in the bureau.
Fan Xian & Fan Ruoruo & Fan Sizhe
Ok but family!!! I love family so much, have I mentioned? Fan Xian feels like both the worst and best older brother to have and I love and hate him in equal measures. Fan Ruoruo is amazing and just wants to hang out with her brothers! Fan Sizhe has so many daddy issues but benefits so much from having two competent (ish) older siblings. He deserves love! They all do!
-Fan Sizhe, Fan Ruoruo, and Fan Xian working together to make Sizhe’s shop a success!
-All of them learning about each other and figuring out how to be siblings.
-Fan Xian’s adventures in trying to reverse engineer modern technology (that his mother hasn’t already reproduced) to become rich and famous etc with his siblings’ ‘help’
-Fan Ruoruo has Suitors. Unfortunately for them they have to get past two overprotective brothers. Chaos ensues.

-Shen Wei accidentally learns an annoying new power which means that the weather now reflects his emotions! Does he realise this? Maybe Zhao Yunlan is away (on a conference? A case? A holiday?) leading to literally days of rain in Dragon city before the SID decides that enough is enough and try to cheer him up
-Anything to do with his life at the university! Shen Wei not realising that he’s 99% of the biology department’s recruiting strategy! Conspiracy boards about what Shen Wei actually does when he disappears (the top 2 contenders are that he’s got a secret modelling job or that his boyfriend is part of the mob)
-seriously though, what does Dixing think about this war hero from 10,000 years ago who’s apparently alive again? 10,000 years is such a long time; are there even surviving record from back then? What misconceptions have sprung up? How far would scholars go to just talk to Shen Wei about the extant technologies available in his time?

Ye Zun

-Ye Zu vs the internet, who would win? (no one would win, this sounds like a terrible combination)
-you know what, I would love to see a story where Ye Zun manages to get friends (who possibly don’t know who he is and who aren’t his brother or connected to his brother in any way) because he has had trauma after trauma piled on and then he was stuck in solitary confinement for 10,000 years. Actually, any story where he manages to work through things in a healthy manner would be lovely. Maybe he writes a book? Becomes a film producer?
-Ye Zun publishes the next 50 shades of grey or outlander based on his brother’s romance and despite it becoming extremely popular Shen Wei has no idea. Of the SID, only Da Qing and Lin Jing know and they are being bribed to keep quiet

Shen Wei & Professor Zhou & Li Qian & Science

-I adore the idea of Shen Wei, fresh out of his 10,000 year nap, coming to Dragon City University and Professor Zhou taking one look at him and going, yes I WILL take care of this duckling. I also like the idea of science families, Professor Zhou looking out for Shen Wei, who then takes Li Qian. If all of them went to a conference together I would love that, I can just imagine Shen Wei standing up with, ‘more of a comment than a question’ and decimating people

William Laurence & Temeraire
-Quiet moments between them both. I love this relationship. Laurence and Temeraire take a moment to just breath.

I’m in a similar situation with SVSSS as I am with the Untamed, in that Shen Jiu was in fact an awful, abusive teacher to Luo Binghe but definitely didn’t deserve his canon fate. I don’t want to minimise that he acted badly, but also I would love for him to have been supported more (or have, you know, loads of his canon trauma not happen to him). It’s always fascinating to me that he and Yue Qingyuan share a common, destructive trait which is not bothering to explain or defend themselves from any accusations, no matter that it would make everyone’s life a LOT easier.

Shang Qinghua/Shen Jiu

-Shen Jiu needs more friends! I would love to see misunderstanding on Shang Qinghua’s side as he tries to figure out why exactly the scum villain is taking an interest in him. I don’t know why Shen Jiu decided to befriend Shnag Qinghua, but perhaps it’s that he started to talk to him so that he could ignore Yue Qingyuan and Shang Qinghua was so sleep deprived that he accidentally started bitching about people, to Shen Jiu’s delight
-both friends being protective of the other. Shang Qinghua resolves to change Shen Jiu’s fate. Shen Jiu glares at anyone who dumps all the paperwork on Shang Qinghua

Liu Qingge/Shen Jiu

-I would love for misunderstanding re: backstory to be cleared up and then for Liu Qingge to have to go, ‘damn I have to fix this’ as Shen Jiu just tries to avoid him.
-alternate meeting where instead of Liu Qingge assuming that Shen Jiu is a lazy young master and Shen Jiu seeing Liu Qingge as the epitome of actual spoilt young masters they accidentally bond through, I don’t know, rare beasts. Vitriolic best buds!
-Liu Qingge and Shen Jiu have to fight against a common enemy (the old palace master??) and to their disgust realise that once they have to, they are very complimentary.

Shen Jiu/Gongyi Xiao

I have only seen a few stories with this pairing but actually I love it. Gongyi Xiao is just a good person and deserves a lot better than his canon fate (either in SVSSS or PIDW). Whether it’s PIDW, some alternate SVSSS where Shen Jiu is also around, or a sort of modern day reincarnated AU, I would love to see something exploring this pairing!
-maybe it’s very much a rock and a hard place where thee rock is Shen Jiu’s determination to believe that deep down everyone is trash and nobody respects or likes him vs Gongyi Xiao and his inherent goodness and belief in the best of everyone (and especially someone that he admires as much as the Qing Jing Peak lord!). Who knows that’ll give first?

Shen Jiu & Shen Yuan

In all iterations, I am fascinated by the relationship that these two could have (transmigration or no), whether it’s as:

- Sort of related, but I recently saw an idea for demon!Cas that has me intrigued for a dark-fic idea. What if Cas chose to become a demon to get his wings back/be more "useful" to Dean & Sam? (Especially at his very low point in seasons 10-12?) Would Dean be able to save him/bring him back? Or might they fall together (MOC/demon!Dean + demon!Cas, anyone?)

I’m fascinated by the idea of crossing over these two canons. Even if there’s some conflict in their approach to Hell/Lucifer/demons, there’s still a lot in common. Dean & Ezekiel having both put in their time in Hell and being demon Hunters, for instance, and their complicated relationships with (fallen) angels. I’d love to see them bonding over their experiences (Maybe they even meet in Hell? Time DOES work differently there…) Maybe somehow after Ezekiel completed his mission for the Devil, he did get his second chance at “life on Earth”…but the devil’s trick is that it’s not HIS Earth, it’s in a different dimension (Supernatural’s). I’m also curious how Ezekiel might respond to Castiel as an angel–perhaps he mistakes Cas for a demon at first, with his powers, but then they realize they are in fact hunting the same demon? Cas is stuck in an alternative dimension and recognizes Ezekiel as a similar soul to Dean’s, and seeks out his help?

This is pure crack but I'd love to see more of it! Time-traveling Cas has a run-in with Columbo while on a hunt? Or maybe something's amiss/souls are going missing in Heaven, and Castiel recruits Columbo to aide in the investigation?

I'd love a casefic where these two run into each other in NYC at some point. I head-canon they perhaps knew each other and were friends way back when in their hippie/war-protesting days. Munch/Fin is one of my all time beloved ships. What can I say about them except they definitely deserved more fannish attention than they ever got? It’s opposites attract in the best way possible for me. They're both also kind of emotionally constipated to start with, so I love seeing how they go from irritating each other to slowly bonding to becoming the classic "Old Married Couple" with their (genuinely affectionate) bickering.
Art: There is not nearly enough art for this ship! Please, anything, would make me so happy. Doing anything romantic in New York City together (even if it’s just a walk through Central Park in the snow or autumn leaves, with an intimate touch or quick kiss.)
