Nominations Clarification 3
Here is a little FAQ about Nominations Clarification posts for those of you who haven't run into them before:
What/why is a Nominations Clarification post?
Nomination clarifications are queries about tags we find confusing and updates about tags or the tagset in general. The goal of nominations is to create a tagset of unambiguous, easy to understand tags that will be useful to participants and solidly within the scope of the exchange. The goal of a clarifications post is to keep all of our participants up-to-date regarding our nominations work and solicit feedback where necessary to create the most useful tagset we can.
Do I need to read the whole post?
No. You can just skim each clarification post to see if a fandom you're interested in requesting or offering has been mentioned. We recommend doing this even if you don't care very much how the tagset is organized in case we make some kind of huge blunder with your favorite fandom or OTP.
How do I reply to a Nominations Clarification post? Do I need a Dreamwidth account?
You don't need a Dreamwidth account because we have anonymous commenting turned on. If you comment anonymously, remember to check back for our reply! You can also email us at ficinaboxmod@gmail.com if you'd prefer.
There's a query about a fandom I'm familiar with, but I'm not the nominator. Can I tell you what I think?
Yes! If you are not the nominator but have relevant fandom knowledge about something, please speak up. Nominators don't always reply to our queries, so answers from other people in the fandom are often very helpful.
Why haven't you processed my nomination(s) yet?
Nominations can't be processed in a strictly first-in, first-out manner because of various backend reasons, so most likely we just haven't yet had a chance because of the large volume of submitted nominations. Double check our nominations clarification posts for your tag. If sign ups open and one or more of your tags is mysteriously still missing, please reach out.
My AO3 tagset nomination(s) were rejected but aren't discussed below, why did you reject them?
Most likely you failed to disambiguate your nominations, or made some other error — we reject incorrect tags rather than fixing them. You're welcome to post a link to your nominations slate if you'd like us to tell you why the tag(s) were rejected. You can attempt to re-nominated tags either on AO3 or via the form if you'd like.
However, there is a delay between us rejecting and us posting nominations clarifications! Literally as I post this post, other people on the tagmod team are approving/rejecting new tags. So your rejected tag might show up in a future clarification post
I have a nominations question not answered here or on the Nomination Guidelines. Can I ask on this post?
Yes! You can ask nominations questions on whichever nominations clarification post has been most recently posted, or you can ask on the Nomination Guidelines, or you can use the mod contact post, or you can email us. We're happy to help no matter how you get in contact!
Nominations closing soon
Nominations close today! We will then enter tagset clean up. There will probably be at least one more nomination clarification after this, possibly two more, as we work on clearing out the AO3 tagset nominations and the sheet nominations. A big benefit of the longer tagset clean up phase this year is that it should give us ample time for clarification of late submitted tags. Once we enter sign ups, we will stop work on tagset clarification so that we can focus on the next phase of the event.
While you're thinking about sign ups, we'd encourage you to stop by the Fandom Promo post (link) to browse promos or post your own!
Recursive fandoms in need of additional interested participants
Per our rules for nominating new recursive fandoms, we need either either proof of an established fandom for the nominated work or 3 participants who are interested in the fandom. In addition to the one we mentioned last time, we have several more nominations for recursive fandoms that are in need of 1-2 more interested parties. Rejected Tags
Google Forms nominations
- Anne of Green Gables - L. M. Montgomery: WB: Any (Anne of Green Gables - L. M. Montgomery) (AOGG) — We're rejecting this tag because we will add all WB: Any tags to the tagset after nominations close.
- D.Gray-man (Anime & Manga): WB: Fallen Ones (DGM) — We think this is a little too close to a Solo: nomination and would like to ask the nominator what kind of worldbuilding they would specifically be interested in. - D.Gray-man (Anime & Manga): WB: Recent Bookman History (DGM) — We realize that "History of [Group]" is a fairly common WB: tag format, but we're concerned this might be a little close to "WB: Backstory of [Group]" which is a type of WB tag we don't allow. Could you elaborate on what kind of worldbuilding you're looking for? (Also, in hopes that you don't feel singled out, I want you to know I have made a note for myself to review all of our "WB: History of..." nominations before the next round starts to see if this is a problem in other similarly phrased tags.)
- DCU (Comics): Jason Todd & Any Red Hood Henchperson(s) (DC Comics) — Nominator, we can't accept this as-is because we don't allow nominations with "(s)". We can approve it as singular or plural—because of our exchange rules, the plural version does also opt requesters into the singular version.

Ao3 tagset nominations
- 15th Century CE RPF: Solo: I. Mátyás magyar király (15th Century CE RPF) — This was rejected for incorrect capitalization, but a curious google brought us to this Wikipedia page—this seems to be the Hungarian name for "Hunyadi Matyas" who is nominated in a different 15th Century CE RPF tag. If that's the case, please re-nominate under that name. If Wikipedia has lied to us (very possible) and these are actually two different people who need to be nominated under separate names, please let us know!
- Betrayal at House on the Hill: WB: Backstories of the Entities Inhabiting the House (Betrayal at House on the Hill) — We don't accept WB tags with "Backstory" in them. Also, we're not really sure what this tag means, but it seems to be about a group of characters, which would probably be better for a Solo: nomination. Could the nominator help us out so we can find a rephrasing that works?
- Betrayal at House on the Hill: WB: Backstories of the Rooms (Betrayal at House on the Hill) — We don't accept WB tags with "Backstory" in them. Also, we're not really sure what this tag means. Could the nominator help us out so we can find a rephrasing that works?
- Betrayal at House on the Hill: WB: How Betrayals Work During Haunts (Betrayal at House on the Hill) — Nominator, this is phrased like a prompt instead of a worldbuilding topic. What kind of worldbuilding are you looking for?
- Final Fantasy XIV: WB: IVth Legion Beastmasters (FFXIV) — We think this is a little too close to a Solo: nomination and would like to ask the nominator what kind of worldbuilding they would specifically be interested in. We're happy to help you phrase one or several tags to cover your worldbuilding interests or, alternately, to accept this tag as a Solo: tag.
- Haikyuu!! : WB: Articles about Volleyball Matches (Haikyuu!!) — Nominator, we don't want anyone to seem like they're opting in to a specific medium via a WB: tag. Could you clarify what kind of worldbuilding you're looking for?
- Haikyuu!! : WB: Kodzuken's Social Media Presence (Haikyuu!!) — This WB: tag would be better as optional details under a Solo: request. "
- Haikyuu!! : WB: Social Media Discussions of Pro Volleyball Players (Haikyuu!!) — We would like to rephrase to ""WB: Internet Discussions of Pro Volleyball Players (Haikyuu!!)"" so that the exact medium of the discussion (social media, forum posts, etc) can be left up to creator discussion, possible influenced by selected tags. We don't want anyone to seem like they're opting in to a specific medium via a WB: tag. "
- House of Leaves - Mark Z. Danielewski: WB: How the House Works (HoL - Danielewski) — We don't accept WB: tags with phrasing like this because it's too close to a prompt/question. Nominator, could you elaborate on what kind of worldbuilding you're looking for?
- Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle: WB: Non-Player Characters (Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle) — Groups of characters can't be nominated as WB tags, only as Solo: tags. We're happy to accept this as a Solo: tag, but we'd also be interested in hearing what kind of worldbuilding the nominator wanted about this group. Please keep in mind that WB: tags need to be phrased in an in-universe way.
- KinnPorsche: The Series (TV): WB: Family History (KinnPorsche) — We realize that "History of [Group]" is a fairly common WB: tag format, but we're concerned this might be a little close to "WB: Backstory of [Group]" which is a type of WB tag we don't allow. Could you elaborate on what kind of worldbuilding you're looking for? (Also, in hopes that you don't feel singled out, I want you to know I have made a note for myself to review all of our "WB: History of..." nominations before the next round starts to see if this is a problem in other similarly phrased tags.)
- Riverdale (TV 2017): WB: The Gang Returning to an Altered Present Timeline (Riverdale) — Nominator, this is phrased like a prompt instead of a worldbuilding topic. What kind of worldbuilding are you looking for?
- The Lord of the Rings - J. R. R. Tolkien: Aragorn/Halbarad (Tolkien) — These were disambiguated incorrectly but we thought you might be confused about why, so here's an explanation: you selected the canonical (official) tags instead of writing a tag with a more specific disambiguation. Per the Nominations Guidelines, we need disambiguations that are clear about which specific fandom a tag is nominated under, so tags under this fandom should be disambiguated with "Aragorn/Halbarad (LotR - Tolkien)" or similar. You can re-nominate via the form if you are out of nomination slots.
- The Magnus Archives (Podcast): WB: Lukas Family History (TMA) — We realize that "History of [Group]" is a fairly common WB: tag format, but we're concerned this might be a little close to "WB: Backstory of [Group]" which is a type of WB tag we don't allow. Could you elaborate on what kind of worldbuilding you're looking for? (Also, in hopes that you don't feel singled out, I want you to know I have made a note for myself to review all of our "WB: History of..." nominations before the next round starts to see if this is a problem in other similarly phrased tags.)
- The Magnus Archives (Podcast): WB: Original Statement (The Magnus Archives) — It's come to our attention that this is a prompt for an in-universe media type, rather than a worldbuilding topic, so it will be removed from the tagset. Nominator, what kind of worldbuilding about statements are you looking for? We'd be happy to put a replacement tag into the tagset for you.
- 天官赐福 - 墨香铜臭 | Tiān Guān Cì Fú - Mòxiāng Tóngxiù: WB: Ghost City Local Newspapers & Articles (TGCF) — Nominator, we don't want anyone to seem like they're opting in to a specific medium via a WB: tag. Could you clarify what kind of worldbuilding you're looking for?
- 天官赐福 - 墨香铜臭 | Tiān Guān Cì Fú - Mòxiāng Tóngxiù: WB: Manual on Ghost Types (TGCF) — Nominator, we don't want anyone to seem like they're opting in to a specific medium via a WB: tag. Could you clarify what kind of worldbuilding you're looking for?
- 山河令 | Word of Honor (TV 2021): WB: Ghost Valley Recipes (Word of Honor) — Nominator, we don't want anyone to seem like they're opting in to a specific medium via a WB: tag. Could you clarify what kind of worldbuilding you're looking for?
- 山河令 | Word of Honor (TV 2021): WB: Notes & Textbooks from Healer Valley (Word of Honor) — Nominator, we don't want anyone to seem like they're opting in to a specific medium via a WB: tag. Could you clarify what kind of worldbuilding you're looking for?
- 黄金の太陽 | Golden Sun Series: WB: The Years Immediately After The Return of Alchemy (Golden Sun) — Nominator, this is a period of time instead of a specific worldbuilding topic. What aspect(s) of this period of time are you looking for worldbuilding about?
- 黄金の太陽 | Golden Sun Series: WB: Vale's Refugees Moving To Kalay Or Rebuilding Nearby (Golden Sun) — Nominator, this is too close to a Solo: group nomination and we would like to rephrase. Maybe something like "WB: Logistics of Vale Refugees' Move To Kalay" although you might want worldbuilding about some different aspect of their resettlement.
The Magnus Archives - WB: Original Statement
Date: 2025-08-12 05:26 pm (UTC)I had thought it more as a statement about original characters? Perhaps then Solo: Original Human Characters (The Magnus Archives) would fit best? Otherwise, if it is considered a prompt then I could put it as an idea in the Dear Creator Letter?

From:Doki Doki Literature Club and KPop Demon Hunters (2025) queries
Date: 2025-08-12 05:28 pm (UTC)WB: Fan Interpretations of the Movie's Finale (KPDH) - This is phrased in an in-universe way! The movie's finale is (in simplified terms) a concert by the boyband Saja Boys (who are secretly demons), which many thousands of people are demonically bewitched/compelled/brainwashed to go to. The Saja Boys' plan is to steal all these people's souls via their evil demon music performance. The three main characters of the movie, the members of the girlgroup Huntr/x who are also the titular demon hunters, crash said concert, and basically kill the Saja Boys on stage. The tag is (I can only assume) about how the in-universe fans of the two bands interpret this - since everyone who attended the concert was brainwashed and presumably has no memory of what actually happened (people in-universe do not know about demons existing), the up-and-coming rising stars Saja Boys with millions of fans worldwide have suddenly disappeared off the face of the earth, and Huntr/x are back together despite having had an extremely public breakup live on stage at the K-Pop Awards show that took place right before this evil brainwashing concert.
Maybe a rephrase to "WB: Fan Interpretations Of The Final Saja Boys Concert (KPDH)" or something similar could help make this tag less ambiguous?
Edit: ...I just realised the "in-universe" part of your note is probably about the "movie finale" part, not the "fan interpretations" part. Well, my rephrase suggestion still stands? ^^"
WB: The Game Without The Player's Influence (DDLC) - DDLC is a game that gets extremely 4th-wall-breaking about the fact that it is a game being played by a player, initially presented as a cute dating sim and then warped to become a horror fest. The reason for this is that one of the characters, Monica, is in love with the player (4th wall breaking style), and warps the "cute dating sim" story to hurt the other girls (such as by driving them to self-harm and/or suicide) and ultimately delete them from the story entirely, leaving the game as an experience of just Monica monologuing to the player behind the screen about how much she loves them. I would assume this tag is about what the characters' lives would look like if the Player never existed for Monica to fall in love with and obsess over, and the girls were just living their in-universe, non-4th-wall-broken lives of running a high school literature club together.
Hope this helps! If either nominator does weigh in, though, then of course feel free to take their word over mine.

Date: 2025-08-12 05:39 pm (UTC)The game makes it very clear that the versions of the characters we (the player) see are not how they'd act of their own volition, since Monika breaks the 4th wall and changes the other characters' personalities in an attempt to drive the player away from them and closer to her. We see glimpses of their real selves throughout canon, and I'd just love to see how they'd behave in a world completely free of the player's influence!

Date: 2025-08-12 05:45 pm (UTC)The fandom as a whole is still used to Sebastian Debeste over Eustace Winner—if you’d prefer only one then Sebastian is probably still going to be the more used one, but I don’t think anyone would complain about either. Piping both might be the better idea, in all honesty.
For what it’s worth, the Tag Wrangling team is piping for both in the canonicals right now when possible, and preferring Sebastian when there’s only room for one. We plan to revisit this decision in a few years to see if fannish use has changed, but that’s what made the most sense to us when figuring out how to accommodate the new official names when they came out.

Date: 2025-08-12 06:06 pm (UTC)Alastor's Shadow is assumed to be somewhat separate from Alastor and there are many fics which use it as a separate character from Alastor. Angel Dust's Shadow is not, but considering the shadow magic in the show it is not impossible to consider other shadows having the same treatment either because of Alastor, his Shadow, or other reasons.

WB: The Years Immediately After The Return of Alchemy (Golden Sun) — I was hoping for literally anything which would go into the changes which occur after Alchemy returns to the world, as Alchemy dwindling was important to everything in that world.
WB: Vale's Refugees Moving To Kalay Or Rebuilding Nearby (Golden Sun) — Would "WB: Lives And Relocation of Vale Refugees After Vale's Destruction" work?

For the first one, how about "WB: Societal Changes Due To The Return Of Alchemy (Golden Sun)" so you'll get something focused on the chances instead of just set during that time period.
For the second one, I'm a little worried "Lives" is too vague—I'd really like you to get gifts for this tag that involve all the juicy details of rebuilding a life after moving, instead of just something focused on, idk, romantic drama set in their new settlement. I think "WB: Relocation Of Vale Refugees After Vale's Destruction" would imply a focus on the process of them actually getting to Kalay and finding places there/near there, but it seems like you're also interested in worldbuilding about what it's like for them after they've picked their new places and have lived there for awhile, so maybe I could put in the relocation tag and also a tag like "WB: Culture/Politics/Logistics Of Vale Refugees' Lives In And Near Kalay"?

Gotham City is cursed, which is why her personification canonically looks so fucked up https://imgur.com/EdQElQh
So yes, Gotham City is canonically thinking/feeling... at least occasionally.
She's definitely female too, because Batman/Bruce often refers to her as, well, her. (This is canon even more often than the other thing.)

Date: 2025-08-12 08:16 pm (UTC)WB: Backstories of the Entities Inhabiting the House: I think this refers to the various haunted/cursed/supernatural beings in the House? If so, I think this would be a solo tag where ther requester could ask for backstories - Solo: Entities Inhabiting the House. The only WB tag I can think of would be about how the House became a hotspot for the entities in the first place - maybe WB: Suitability of the House on the Hill as a Habitat for Entities
WB: Backstories of the Rooms: The rooms of the house are generated by drawing from a deck. Some rooms have odd details in the art (like the scattered music in the ballroom), while others had Something happen; details unclear (Charred Room, Bloody Room). This could be worldbuilding about what happened in some of the rooms to make it the way that it was, worldbuilding about why the rooms are arranged the way they are in that particular playthrough, or why some of these rooms even exist (Ritual Chamber, Mystic Elevator). Maybe WB: History of the Rooms?
WB: How Betrayals Work During Haunts: When the Haunt begins, one player is chosen by the game to betray the group and have a opposing win condition. In-universe, some of these happen because of curses, some because the "betraying" player happens to be the first one eaten when the monsters show up, and sometimes it's implied that the betraying player was always secretly against the group. There's also some weirdness with the mechanics of who gets chosen as the betrayer - it could be the person who triggered the Haunt, an explorer with a personality trait related to the haunt, or someone with the highest or lowest stat. Since betrayals only happen when the Haunt is triggered, I think this could be explored with WB: Betrayals.

Date: 2025-08-12 11:57 pm (UTC)the fallen ones are less of a specific group and more a state you enter under certain circumstances. it's only ever explained as 'betraying your innocence' (innocence being the name for the magic/soul-bonded and debatably sentient weapons). the worldbuilding questions would be largely related to how you think this works, mechanically- is it consistent between pieces of innocence and/or their accomodators, what happens to a piece of innocence afterwards, at what point is it too late to go back, and similar. 'solo: fallen ones' and 'wb: mechanics of fallen ones' separately perhaps?
D.Gray-man (Anime & Manga): WB: Recent Bookman History (DGM)
the immediate history of the bookman clan has been pretty deliberately obscured (both in and out of world) but we have, especially the last few chapters, been slowly getting more information. most worldbuilding inquiries would be along the lines of 'what's going on here???' which i suspect makes it fall more under 'backstory of-' rather than less. 'solo: bookman clan' (separate from the character whose only known alias is also bookman lol) would probably cover the idea well enough in combination with prompts

We get a little bit of quotes from the book, but most is left up to vague references. I think there’s a lot of worldbuilding you can do by expanding on that.
Hope this helps!

Date: 2025-08-13 10:14 am (UTC)the witcher video game wb : any witcher school : for this one i think the WB is more appropriate than solo, given that the nomination, to me, asks for what would be like. the organisation, the training, the mutations, the history, the culture of a specific witcher school. so i think WB is appropriate ? or maybe WB: any witcher school's organisation/tradition ? something like that

Date: 2025-08-15 08:39 pm (UTC)(For the Witcher tag, we're discussing specifics with the nominator, but we can't and won't accept it as a WB: tag because it needs to specify a worldbuilding topic. Otherwise, it might be filled by something like backstory for characters from any Witcher Schools.)

Date: 2025-08-14 06:08 am (UTC)I think a change to "WB: Internet Discussions of Pro Volleyball Players (Haikyuu!!)" would work well.
As for "WB: Inner Politics of Volleyball Teams", it’s not specified in canon whether they differ from real life volleyball team politics (chances are that we can guess they stay close to real life, but I would have been curious to see what someone might make of this & to get a more behind the scenes look). I was mostly looking for in-team politics, but see now why that would likely not qualify.
With "WB: Articles about Volleyball Matches (Haikyuu!!)", I was mostly looking for discussions (in official sources like newspapers or news shows or academic articles etc) about volleyball matches. I realise this should have been phrased differently. (Maybe WB: Official Discussions of Volleyball Matches?)
no subject
Date: 2025-08-15 07:50 pm (UTC)For that last one: "Official Discussion" would probably open you up to things like sports commentary during matches or internal memos from whatever pro sport organization arranges the matches, and I think it probably implies discussion between pro volleyball officials more than it does print media or academics.
Maybe something like "WB: Professional/Academic Analysis Of Volleyball Matches (Haikyuu!!)"?

I am unsure of how to phrase this in a better way than my initial nomination.
Also Gintama Nominator!
It seems I mistakenly left that nomination in. Feel free to leave it rejected! sorry mods!
