Pinch hits are participants who are without creators; pinch hitting is the practice of volunteering to make a gift for a pinch hit. These pinch hits are all due on November 5th at 11:59 EDT (countdown).

Fic In A Box has a very unusual set of assignment requirements: everyone is owed (and is asking for) 10k of fanfiction, which by default can be given as one 10k+ fic or several 1k+ fics. Participants have also had the option to opt-in to other minimum lengths or to other formats of fanwork. The other fanwork mediums are given word count equivalents, which you can view on the medium ruleset post.

Additionally:

Fic In A Box creators may default after partially filling their assignment — say, if they discover that they can only write 9k of fic — and PHs can be picked up in 1k increments!
You may always swap all or part of your assignment for a PH, just let us know that's what you're doing when you post to claim the PH.

(I’ve only watched S1 and S2 as they killed almost all their characters off, so nothing after that. By all accounts S3 was a bit dull. I might watch S4, but I thought the end of S2 would have been a great place to leave the show, with them opening the door to go out into the “real” world.).
My DWN of "no excessive gore" and "no graphic descriptions of rape" might seem incompatible with "Canon typical violence" as this *is* Westworld, especially since the hosts have no choice but to enjoy sex with humans, and can't refuse to do anything. There's a grey area in there, so if in doubt, ask the Mods to ask.

Teddy, he seems to be one of those Hosts that will always end up screwed over, no matter what - it's the way his story was designed.
I don't ship Teddy with anyone, and I'm not averse to him / with anyone, although I found him and Dolores a bit dull. Him and Wyatt is interesting, and any form of relationship Teddy has with the MiB is bound to be more than a little bit twisted.

Ideas
The MiB is obsessed by Dolores, and so Teddy is his direct rival. Would he use Teddy against Dolores?
Wyatt seems to have been mostly forgotten about, but the idea that he was out there as a host is intriguing. What was his relationship with "Wyatt", how far did it go, how did it fit with "Dolores"? How did they meet (in the narrative), where they friends? What justification did Teddy give for Wyatt’s betrayal?
What about Teddy’s life as the sheriff, before everyone died.
Was he programmed for any other roles before he was the mysterious bounty hunter? Maybe between being sheriff and being the Teddy we see.
There was the new narrative that Ford was mapping out, what was it? What future scenarios might there have been?
The MiB trying to corrupt him might be interesting too, as he is set up as "the good guy".
What if Westworld goes offline and the Hosts are left to fend for themselves? What would Teddy have to do to survive?

And then there is all the possibilities that the computerised side of his nature might contain. - Programming errors, calibration, de-bugging, system error, blue screen of death. Teddy cycling through his loop, but his programming degrades each time round.

My favourite character is Mandrake. I’d prefer &s rather than /s but maybe the poor guy needs a bit of fun as well, but I’d prefer no Mandrake/Jedda

The canon-typical violence here can be stretched upwards a little, as it was a kids cartoon in the 80s and maybe needs a bit of updating.
And it’s probably a bit mean to say no K’shin or Zuffy, but they are just so annoying (in that 80s cartoon sidekick kind of way), so if you could find them something wholesome to do “off camera” that would be fantastic.

Something with him and Dynak X the supercomputer. Magic vs technology, similarities and differences. She would have a unique opinion about him and his skills. Would they be able to work together without any of the other defenders there too?
And talking of similarities and differences, what about Mandrake and Ming? How about Ming finding a way to “persuade” Mandrake to join his team? Or and AU where Mandrake does end up on the other side of the conflict for some reason?
Could they be persuaded to work together for some reason?
He’s keeper of the Crystal of Konos, so potential there for time shenanigans and other temporal fun. He’s also a Shadow Lord of huge power. What would he do if it all went horribly wrong? Would he turn “Strange-Supreme” and go on a rampage to set it right? How far would he really go?

Fun, fun, fun! It’s so British, silly, intense, and man what a fab soundtrack.
Anyway…
My favourite character is Goosefat Bill. I don’t ship him with anyone, although I quite like the idea of him and Maggie, and the only / I don’t like is him and Bedivere, as they seem to be good friends more than anything more.

Sir William Wilson, member of Uther’s inner circle, and rebellion spy! He’s both, and he fits into both worlds. So how did a high-ranking court member end up a top-flight spy?
What was he like while Uther was alive, and how did he react to his death?
What was the personal cost to Bill for not cosying up to Vortigen?
I’d imagine he’d do what he had to do to be such a good spy, how does he actually feel about that? Him and Bedivere worked for years to find Arthur and try and protect the people. What sort of things did they have to do?
I kind of want to read a fic entitles “Bill and Bed’s Excellent Adventure”, just because it would be funny…
How did he end up in the brothel, what was that mission about?
How did he get his nickname?
How about something post-film film with Arthur and Bill in the Darklands fighting giant monsters?

Basically, anything. How helpful!
But there is so little in this fandom that anything about these two mages, or their world, would be amazing.
It is one of my all-time favourite games, and I could happily play it all day (and I have!). That’s part of the reason I need fic for it, I’ve played it so much and spent so much time thinking about it while playing that my brain demands answers. I have my own ideas, but I’d love to hear other people’s, especially since this is such a teeny weeny fandom.
The heroes showing up would be okay too, I don’t mind. The “in-character” part of my likes is more difficult, especially since you don’t get too much characterisation of any of them.

Wtf does Sumner do all day in his tower? He’s always there. He stands around and seems to do nothing.
Does he feel any guilt about dragging these heroes into his family problem.
And how does he get so many (basically infinite) power-ups for the heroes? Does he craft them?
And what does he do with all the gold he gets?
As he’s so powerful why did he need to drag the players into all of this?
And why doesn’t he just *tell* them where the runestones are? Why all the secrecy (obviously for the game, but in-universe…)
And why bother with all those crystals to open the doors, just what is going on in that tower???
Garm is his brother, what’s their story?
And how did Garm meet up with Skorne? Why did he betray the world?

Oh, one of my favourite parts isn’t even in the main game - when you quit and it goes “game over”, there is a short scene with Sumner at this podium and Skorne’s fist punches through the wall and pulls him away. I love it! And what an excellent starting point for a fic!

I'm super easy to please so I'll likely be thrilled with anything focused on these boys as I think the relationships between these pairs are fascinating. I love the way Reo & Nagi's relationship has evolved over the course of the manga and would love to see something set in canon as they continue to discover how they fit together now that they're both growing and changing and want different things than they originally did. Something post-canon might also be cool. How Blue Lock changed them and continues to change them in the aftermath and whether they leave it as friends or rivals or strangers with a messy past full of baggage and how a relationship might build out of that, whether it be healthy or toxic or somewhere in between.

Bachira and Isagi are also really interesting to me in how they clicked right away and the interesting ways they see themselves in each other. I love that them being competitive and moving forward in Blue Lock hasn't soured their relationship. Whether they're opponents or teammates they have an ease with each other that allows them to chase and compete with each other while still remaining friendly at the end of the day and it would be cool to see what kind of romantic or sexual relationship could come from that dynamic. Are they friends with benefits? Are they partners?

LOOK. I am obsessed with Tougen Anki. It's one of my very favorite manga running primarily for the relationship dynamics. I find Shiki and Jin's evolving friendship endlessly fascinating and I would love to see anything that focuses on that and the way they've both continued to change and grow as characters and how much they genuinely care about each other almost in spite of themselves. I also really love Shiki's newfound and hard won friendship with Mikado. I'd love to see something mission focused that tested those bonds and allowed them to continue to change and evolve. Or Shiki and Mikado becoming pen pals. Or finding opportunities to meet and just be teenagers and go to the movies or the arcade or hang out. I'd love to see Shiki drag Jin out to do anything of those things as well, because inevitably Jin has never had a chance to do anything like that due to the circumstances of his childhood. I'd equally love to see how those relationships would continue to develop as Momo and Oni tensions continue to rise and the fighting between those factions continue as they get older. I'd be equally into future fic that explored the world as it continues to change around them all and how oni and momo relations might continue to change. Feel free to toss in any other characters you like as I'm wild about all of them.

So, I've always had a soft spot for Rufus Shinra, something which has not changed at all after playing the remake. I find the idea of multiple timelines and all the changes between them absolutely fascinating and I'm always here for something that plays with that and for shifting dynamics. I love the idea of Rufus and Sephiroth and Cloud having more history then some or all of them are aware of. I'd be absolutely down for anything that played with the dynamics of Cloud's PTSD or that explored more of Sephiroth's childhood in the lab or Rufus' childhood and background. Alrighty, everyone in this game is a hot mess, but that's a large part of what makes it such a good time. That said I'm always a fan of taking otome games and making them queerer than their creators likely intended. Maya and Anatasia are so deeply devoted to each other, it would be lovely to see them find some sort of happily ever after together after all the shit they've gone through for each other in all those timelines. I also love the friendship and devotion between Crius, Tyril and Zenn and would love to see something that focused on them, romantic or otherwise, in any or all timelines. I think it'd be especially interesting to see something that focused in on that first timeline where Zenn came to this world and how those bonds first formed or something from Zenn's perspective as he seeks out those relationships again and again. I'd also totally be up for some good ol' world building. In game texts, paperwork, or documents would be especially welcome.

(for art), dealing with the fallout of sexpollen, soulbonds that are developed through some event the characters share, continuation/speculation/timeline divergence!, ideas where you're like "huh, that's just too weird to bother with", characters trapped in a cave/shack, characters have to journey away from the main plot to have an adventure together, dealing with other characters reacting to their relationship after returning,

Akutagawa/Atsushi: These 2 are a real A+ ship in the not getting along department. My favorite development is whatever Akutagawa is doing in whatever his last appearance in the manga is (even if it's in the future). I think it would be cool to "solve" that with some blood from someone who has healing powers (Atsushi). I think they would argue about it and there would probably be some angst.

Jouno/Tecchou: This ship probably gives you a LOT of room to invent whatever you want. I did an extreme switch on my feelings about these characters!!!

Dazai/Chuuya/Sigma: probably VERY shallow reasoning, but I'm super into that little dance that Dazai did with Sigma and I think Chuuya is a great addition because Sigma is afraid of him. I think after current manga works pretty well. I don't think Chuuya is in any danger just because something is "heavy." So that's when I think works best.

DNW: chatfic, high school AU, no powers AU - THOUGH, exception to the dnw: high shcool AU, I think it would be SUPER funny for non-aged-down, regular, Akutagawa/Atsushi to be trapped by some power in some kind of vampire/werewolf(tiger) high school romance story!!

I think for either ship, something exploring a speculative (unlikely) part 2 would be fun! Like what if Angel Devil comes back and remembers little flashes of his past self (for fanfiction reasons!) and maybe his new powers let him bring people back if they were affected by his previous powers. IDK, but they're in HELL, so they have to have an adventure to get out.

Maybe Power regenerates and comes back in Hell as her regular Devil form and she's tormenting people in.. Hell and Aki is there and SHE has a flash of a memory (also for fanfiction reasons), and somehow manages to bring him with her to find Denji (some guy she mostly doesn't remember but feels compelled to find?).

I love these characters! Maybe they're forever separated and can never find their way! But I think it would be a fun afterlife/resurrection plot/goal!

Jowan was my favorite DAO character and my favorite DA2 ship is Anders/Fenris and I like Justice too. I think it would be fun if one or both of Fenris and/or Anders don't necessarily know Jowan is a mage to start with. I like when Justice is pretty well combined with Anders and isn't blamed for all of the things Anders decides.

For Anders/Fenris/Justice, I think it could be fun if there was past Fanris/Hawke and then the 3rd game happened and Fenris is doing his comics mage hunting(?) and finds Anders again then. (I have only played the first 2 games and watched a show. I feel like making up whatever you want for the comics events is fine.)

I really like these characters and their weird edges and problems (with each other in Fenris and Anders cases).

These 2 are a good enemy ship combined with shapeshifting. AND combined with one of them currently (possibly - I mean I really hope so for fanfic purposes bc the other option is death and that's a little boring for this one though I am under the impression that there are robot ghosts in the other series which could be pretty fun??) living in the other one's head. I think a post canon plot would be good bc I think they would both want to fix that! I enjoy very much that Lumine seems more powerful and dangerous but is also younger (and defeated). I think there are also some parts in the game (like before boss fights but not cutscenes) where enemy bosses would tell Axl that their boss was really obsessed with him? It's been a long time!

Any period welcome, from Republic through to Late Antiquity.

+ The soldier is posted to Egypt for the first time and, caught up in a riot, takes refuge at a temple where a priest offers him sanctuary

+ The soldier is a devotee of Isis or Serapis in Rome during one of the occasional imperial crackdowns on foreign religions. Does he go to warn the priest, or is he sent to arrest/expel the priest? Or perhaps he wants something – a promotion, to heal a sick family member, or he just wants the priest – and he has to undergo a ritual to achieve his heart’s desire.

+ For Reasons, the priest is sent to another temple, and the soldier, also for Reasons, must accompany him – roadtrip (rivertrip?)!

Crusader Knight/Byzantine Eunuch
+ Who is the eunuch? An imperial secretary, a general, something else entirely? Which Crusade does the knight belong to? Does he belong to one of the military orders (Templars, Hospitallers, etc), or is he from one of the Crusader states and he’s in Constantinople to ask for something (alliance, assistance?) from the Byzantine emperor?

+ Istanbul is one of my favourite cities, so anything involving the eunuch showing the knight around Constantinople would be amazing. Especially if you can work the cisterns and aqueduct into the story.

+ Venice is another of my favourite cities, maybe the eunuch is an ambassador from Constantinople, or he’s a merchant, but the Doge believes he’s a spy and orders the knight (who could be an ex-Crusader) to investigate.

Imperial Minister/Musician He Rescued from a Teahouse
I’m partial to Chinese dynasties from the Tang through to the Qing, but would also very much enjoy a story set in imperial Japan or Korea. I’d be equally happy with a more fantasy/wuxia-type setting.

+ The Imperial Minister is a badass general recently returned from a war/diplomatic visit and discovers his favourite tea house has a hot new musician, but also a dodgy new owner with dubious business dealings and a seditious clientele.

+ The ambitious Imperial Minister plucks the equally ambitious Musician from obscurity and transforms him a la My Fair Lady to perform in front of the Emperor. Riches and influence are within their grasp – they just have to keep denying how they really feel about one another.

+ The Musician is a huli jing/kitsune/gumiho and has his own reasons for being at the teahouse. The Imperial Minister inadvertently ruins his plans.

I have an entirely inappropriate crush on Sulla because of these books, and I shipped Sulla/Metrobius long before I discovered the existence of fanfic. I love that their relationship spans so many decades, and what starts as pure lust turns into something genuine. Metrobius is Sulla’s touchstone in many respects, his link to his former self, which is somehow far more open and truthful than his patrician persona.

Some prompts:

+ A Five Times fic through the ages, giving Metrobius’s POV from that first meeting with Sulla through to Sulla on his deathbed (*Underage sex is a DNW and in the canon, Metrobius is most definitely underage when they meet. Implied sex in the same vein as canon is fine but I’d prefer anything more graphic to take place when Metrobius is older).

+ Sulla thinks he knows everything about Rome’s underworld. Metrobius takes him out incognito one night and show him what it’s really like.

+ I would love a fic set in the Roman theatre, either from the POV of Sulla watching Metrobius perform or from Metrobius’s perspective as an actor on stage. Plutarch calls Metrobius a ‘female impersonator’, so you could go with him playing the archetypal virtuous maiden, or, as McCullough does, have Metrobius transition from playing female roles to the lead male such as the Swaggering Soldier. The first time he steps on stage as a male character could make for a really interesting piece.

Susanna Gregory’s heroes are always principled and honourable, but Chaloner has very little of Matt Bartholomew’s naivety, and I like that about him. He’s suffered immense loss but still finds the beauty in small moments. The humour of Gregory’s books appeals to me, and there’s something in Chaloner’s world-weariness that really resonates.

Prompts if you'd like them:

+ Something that’s mentioned but not explored in depth in the books is Chaloner’s past. I’d love a fic about his younger years during the Civil War, his relationship with his uncle, how he came to learn the viol, why he went into espionage, or his early years in Holland.

+ Case fic set in a royal aviary or involving birds of prey belonging to his Earl or to someone he doesn’t like or trust, such as Lady Castlemaine.

+ Wiseman is accused of body snatching; Chaloner investigates to clear his friend’s name.

I recently fell in love with this show, and I can’t get it out of my brain. The intensity, the stress, the passion, the pain. I love every single character and all their flaws. I love the way they fight, and the way the come together as a family. I love Carmy and Sydney’s ambitions, both separately and together. I love the themes of grief, and Carmy slowly coming to terms with his feelings. It’s just…so, so good, and I want more in this world.

As far as I’m concerned this show is one of the best of all time, and I always want more. I’m constantly astonished by its ability to blend wacky humor with soul crushingly poignant character moments. It has amazingly creative world building and some of the most realistically crafted characters I’ve ever seen, under all the animal puns and slapstick adventures. It’s depressing as fuck, and yet the way the characters keep fumbling on, attempting to connect to each other and often support each other, even when maybe that’s ill advised, actually leaves me oddly hopeful and uplifted.

This is a combo I have wanted forever, and a recent Community re-watch re-sparked the need. I mean, Abed finding out Inspector Spacetime is basically real? He’s trained for this forever! I fucking adore this show, with all its silly bad law and banter and complex relationships of love and loyalty and hurt and betrayal and forgiveness and, oh yes, banter. I like the quippy, easy breeziness of the early seasons as well as the angst and the drama of the later season (that prison arc, hot damn), so whatever speaks to you the most is what I want to get!

I find this show endlessly charming and fun (and I also love how political it is, so feel free to incorporate that if you want). These two are my fave pair in the whole thing. I love how Jonah so earnest and just completely desperate for any sign of approval or affection from Garrett, and how much Garrett totally knows that, and messes with him all the time (I find Garrett’s dry humor hilarious. And everything about him. I adore Garrett). But I think it’s clear that under that all, Garrett really cares about Jonah too, it’s just hard for him to express that. Adding romance/getting together into the mix just takes that dynamic and amps it up in a fun way.

In general, I love the upbeat tone and humor of the show, and I’m looking for a fic, comics, vids, etc. that matches that general feel. Feel free to let the work get serious if/when it need to—the show does!—but I am hoping for an overall vibe that’s more fun and hijinks than dark and painful.
