Nominating
Nomination is how you add things to the tagset! Mediums aren't matchable via Ao3, but participants can opt into mediums other than fanfiction and then if you're someone who wishes to match on one of those mediums you'll be able to email us (ficinaboxmod@gmail.com) or contact us via a google form (to be posted later).
This post is where you should nominate any mediums you want added to the tagset!
If you're nominating a medium where the equivalent needs to be discussed you should only nominate if you are someone who intends to create the medium within the exchange. If it's a new length opt-in, another form of something already in the tagset, or something that fits easily into the Rulesets anyone can nominate.
When nominating a medium, please include the following categories:
There is an example (and by example I mean a real medium the mods are nominating) below for reference!
Other Info
Almost all tags from last year were imported into this year's tagset. Those excluded were because they required unique rules and weren't posted last year, with some of them being potentially out of scope of the exchange upon further reflection. The following tags were excluded (those with stars are potentially out of scope):All of these can be renominated by someone who intends to create them, including those which may be out of scope! Those with stars will need further discussion (either due to scope issues or due to the addition of templates and the rulesets possibly changing how they should be equated), those without can be renominated directly. If the list style mediums are renominated I have a draft of a ruleset for those.

I'm going to do a post of "Where to upload the thing" after assignments go out and will make sure to mention stitchfiddle.com as an option for knitting charts when I do so!

Date: 2021-08-19 11:27 pm (UTC)1. do crochet charts (which can also be created through stitchfiddle) count in the same category or do they need to be nominated/requested separately? (arguments for separate: some crafters are only familiar with one or the other type of yarncraft and might only request a medium that would produce a pattern they can follow. Crochet charts are less often strictly grids, and may be harder for mods to count. Argument for combined: you can use the same tool to create them, equivalence for both can be based on the number of symbols in the pattern)
2. is the equivalent knitting pattern (in text) subject to knitting chart guidelines or instruction-set guidelines?
2a. If the text version of a pattern counts in a different category a creator submits both (and the recipient requested both), do both count towards the assignment or just one of them?

Date: 2021-08-20 12:39 am (UTC)1. I'd like to keep them separate, for exactly that half of your arguments! As long as the less strictly grid crochet charts have *something* I can count then we'll be able to figure it out (from a quick google they look complicated, so it might also be a "Please tell me how many of the thing in your top authors note so that I only need to make sure it looks ballpark correct instead of fully counting" situation)
2. I'd be fine with either of these options, depending on which you think it's closer to! My guess is that doing it similarly to the knitting chart rule would probably be more fair, especially since the instruction-set rules are based on wordcount.
2a. I think it should count for both if both are requested/submitted!

Date: 2021-08-20 01:37 am (UTC)Medium: Knitting Pattern (text only)
Ruleset(s): Instructions
What is it: the alphanumeric version of a knitting pattern
Other info: many yarncraft patterns include photos of the in-progress craft at key stages. I haven't done any knitting projects in over a decade so if you need an example, hopefully mimsical can provide one?
Medium: Crochet Chart
Ruleset(s): Unique
Unique Rules: should match knitting chart rules as closely as reasonable (1 symbol equivalent to five words, minimum 200 symbols; post to ao3 should include a high quality image or an image in any quality plus a link to a site where the original chart can be downloaded without needing to create an account. Because crochet charts aren't grids, creators should indicate the symbol count with the finished product for mod review)
What is it: a visual representation of a crochet pattern using theoretically-standardized symbols
Other Info: looks more organic than a knitting pattern, unlikely to be a grid (certain niche styles of crochet - eg c2c - may still have gridlike patterns). Because symbols are only theoretically standardized, it would be polite to include a symbol-to-name key with the chart, including whether the names of stitches are in US or UK crochet terms.
Medium: Crochet Pattern (text only)
Ruleset(s): Instructions*
* Creator should specify whether the pattern uses US or UK crochet terms
What is it: the alphanumeric version of a crochet pattern (eg: "round 3: (sc 1 inc 1)* : 18")
Other info: many crochet patterns include photos of the in-progress craft at key stages
