Nomination clarifications are queries and updates about tags we find confusing. The goal of nominations is to create a tagset of unambiguous, easy to understand tags that will be useful to participants and solidly within the scope of the exchange. Tags are separated by query vs rejection notice, form vs AO3 nomination, and then by fandom. You can respond anonymously to this post or logged in. If you are not the nominator but have relevant fandom knowledge about something, please speak up! If you have questions about nominations not covered in this post, please ask!

Nominations for relationship slot tags are over, but medium nominations continue! If you forgot to nominate some relationships you really need, please comment on this or any DW post with your nominations in this format:

• DBSK | Tohoshinki | TVfXQ | TVXQ: all tags — "Jung Yunho (DBSK)/Kim Jaejoong (TVXQ)" seems to be a crossover tag, but the fandom also seems to indicate that DBSK and TVXQ are the same fandom, and basically we're wondering what's going on here and what fandom disambiguation we should use.
• Boogie Boys (Web Series): JC Backfire & Lex | MrTLexify & Liam Winter & Milo | MrRoflWaffles (Boogie Boys) — We notice that this fandom shares character overlap with nominations in Video Blogging RPF, and we couldn't turn up very many google results except for YouTube videos that are, presumably, what this canon is referencing. The only fics under this fandom on AO3 are hidden mystery works and it's an uncategorized fandom, so we have no guidance from AO3 there. What makes this set of vlogging content separate from the content that makes up the "canon" of the Video Blogging RPF fandom? Also, is it "JC Backfire" or "JCbackfire"?
• Harry Potter - J. K. Rowling: WB: Hogwarts as sentient (HP - JKR) — It's been a really long time since I reread this canon. Is Hogwarts as sentient something that has in-text support, or is this fanon? (If it's fanon, we could accept this as "WB: Hogwarts" and you could prompt for sentient Hogwarts!)
• The Masquerade Series - Seth Dickinson: WB: Cancrioth (Masquerade Series) — The Cancrioth seems to be a secret society based on our googling. Are you looking specifically for worldbuilding about what the secret society does, in which case we would like to slightly rephrase the tag, or are you looking for worldbuilding about who the members of the secret society are, in which case a Solo: Cancrioth tag would be more appropraite?
• The Masquerade Series - Seth Dickinson: WB: The Cryptarchy (Masquerade Series) — We couldn't immediately figure out what The Cryptarchy is while googling (it was a very fast google, there are so many tags) but it sounds like it might be a group of people. If you're looking for worldbuilding about people, their backgrounds/motivations, etc, then a Solo: tag would be more appropriate. If you're looking more for something about how this group of people interacts with/is viewed by society, then a slight tag rephrasing might be needed. If this isn't a group of people, we're sorry to have bothered you.
• The Masquerade Series - Seth Dickinson: WB: Falcrest (Masquerade Series) — Is this the Imperial Republic of Falcrest, or a different Falcrest?

If there is a different canonical alternate version of Steve Rogers that we've forgotten existed and that you would prefer, please let us know and we'll add the tag into the set for you.
• Welcome to Night Vale: WB: The Smiling God (Welcome to Night Vale) — We've accepted a relationship tag that included the Smiling God as a character, so we were wondering if this nomination would be better as a Solo: request or if it should be rephrased slightly to focus on the religion based around the Smiling God rather than on the god himself.

Not the nominator, but re: the Masquerade noms -- there's only one Falcrest. The Cryptarchy is the shadow cabal that runs Falcresti affairs. It's a group, but it's also an institution in the same way you'd say "the New York City Police Department." And the Cancrioth are a cultural group -- maybe "Cancrioth customs" or similar could work forthe nominator? Hopefully that context is at least somewhat helpful.

Not the nominator, but Kim Jaejoong used to be in DBSK/TVXQ/Tohoshinki but left the group with two other members to form the group JYJ. He's now a solo artist and actor. Jung Yunho is still in TVXQ.

heyyo, nominator of "Welcome to Night Vale: WB: The Smiling God (Welcome to Night Vale)" here, I was really tired during nominating and forgot to add like half the tag. It should be "WB: The Smiling God - Religion and Lore (Welcome to Night Vale)"
(There is the "Joyous Congregation of the Smiling God", which is a religious institution of the Smiling God, but I don't want to limit the tag to only one institution, if that makes sense.)

As long as Kim Jaejoong was at one time a member of the group, it seems fine that he's nominated under this fandom — not that different from requesting a character who's been written out of a show or something.

It sounds like DBSK, Tohoshinki, TVfXQ, and TVXQ are maybe just different names for the same group, but in that case we're not sure why Jung Yunho is disambiguated with DBSK and Kim Jaejoong with TVXQ. Is that distinction important in some way that would make it confusing if we changed the tag to ""Jung Yunho/Kim Jaejoong (DBSK|TVXQ)"?

(Obviously we would like to hear from the nominator if they arrive to this post soon, but we think this seems like a clarification that needs help from someone who understands the fandom, rather than specific clarification about what the nominator meant, so thank you for commenting!)

We understand that AO3 has a 100 character limit on all tags, but unfortunately it's something we can't change. Tags without spaces are hard to read and cannot be accepted.

Still not the nominator, but yes, the group is known by different names - Tohoshinki is the Japanese version, DBSK is the Korean version, etc. I don't know why the nominator would have disambiguated like that, it doesn't make any difference! As a fan, I wouldn't be confused if you changed the tag to Jung Yunho/Kim Jaejoong (DBSK|TVXQ).
