Nominating

Nomination is how you add things to the tagset! Mediums aren't matchable via Ao3, but participants can opt into mediums other than fanfiction and then if you're someone who wishes to match on one of those mediums you'll be able to email us (ficinaboxmod@gmail.com) or contact us via a google form (to be posted later).

This post is where you should nominate any mediums you want added to the tagset!

If you're nominating a medium where the equivalent needs to be discussed you should only nominate if you are someone who intends to create the medium within the exchange. If it's a new length opt-in, another form of something already in the tagset, or something that fits easily into the Rulesets anyone can nominate.

When nominating a medium, please include the following categories:

Other Info

Almost all tags from last year were imported into this year's tagset. Those excluded were because they required unique rules and weren't posted last year, with some of them being potentially out of scope of the exchange upon further reflection. The following tags were excluded (those with stars are potentially out of scope):

All of these can be renominated by someone who intends to create them, including those which may be out of scope! Those with stars will need further discussion (either due to scope issues or due to the addition of templates and the rulesets possibly changing how they should be equated), those without can be renominated directly. If the list style mediums are renominated I have a draft of a ruleset for those.

And in the rulesets I'm grouping it with Twine!

Also, if you think it's a good idea to include an umbrella tag that covers both of them, let me know what you think would be a good clear way to word that other than just "Ink or Twine"! It should be something that excludes AO3 based Interactive Fiction and is obvious what it means. (I was going to add one but couldn't think of a good clear way to word it. It might be that it just doesn't need an umbrella tag since it's only two tags.)

Thank you! I think it's a great idea to have an umbrella tag. (I don't think most people requesting this style of IF care about the particulars of the codebase, they just want a Twine-style game. I nominated Ink because I prefer to work in it and wouldn't want to give an Ink fic to someone who had explicitly requested Twine, but for most end users the differences are irrelevant.) Unfortunately, I'm not sure there is a term that includes both Ink and Twine, excludes AO3-based interactive fiction, and won't confuse a lay person. Ink- and Twine-style games are often called "choice-based IF" (to distinguish them from parser IF) or "hypertext IF" but those don't clearly exclude AO3-based IF; technically, what they have in common is JavaScript, but the casual user might not even know that. Just "Ink and Twine" might be the best bet.

work? It's a bit long but I hopefully encompasses what's needed? Otherwise I'll put it in as Ink or Twine but I think for future proofing reasons it'd be a good thing to have this sort of Umbrella.
