Nominations Clarification 1
Navigation: Rules/General Info | AO3 Collection | Nominations Guidelines | Medium Nominations | Fandom Transfer | Mod Contact: ficinaboxmod@gmail.com OR Screened Mod Contact Post
Nomination clarifications are queries and updates about tags we find confusing. The goal of nominations is to create a tagset of unambiguous, easy to understand tags that will be useful to participants and solidly within the scope of the exchange.
Tags are separated by query vs rejection notice, form vs AO3 nomination, and then by fandom. You can respond anonymously to this post or logged in. If you are not the nominator but have relevant fandom knowledge about something, please speak up! If you have questions about nominations not covered in this post, please ask!

- Archive 81 (Podcast): Aleister/Aleister's House (Archive 81) — Is Aleister's house is a sentient character? This doesn't seem to be the case from our googling, but we're not familiar with the fandom.
- Archive 81 (Podcast): Aleister/Aleister's House/Michael Waters (Archive 81) — Is Aleister's house is a sentient character? This doesn't seem to be the case from our googling, but we're not familiar with the fandom.
- Dream SMP: WB: Admin Abilities & Creative Mode Access (Dream SMP) (Dream SMP) — WB tags have to be about a concrete, in-universe part of the requested canon. Obviously for an SMP to function someone must have administrative access to the server, but are these kinds of Minecraft game functions part of the in-universe story that's being told, and if so are they called "admin access" and "creative mode"?
- Dream SMP: WB: Cyberknife (Dream SMP) — Could we get more information about Cyberknife, please? It's a character tag on AO3 - would this be better as a Solo: tag?
- Empires SMP: WB: Transition Between S1 & S2 (Empires SMP) — WB tags must be related to concrete things that exist or happened in-universe. Some SMPs have in-universe lore explaining the transition into the next one, but some only have in-universe lore explaining the end of each season. Does Empires SMP have an in-universe transition? It's my understanding that lore doesn't carry over between Empires seasons, but I could definitely be mistaken. If some of the players establish in-universe transitions and others don't, we could perhaps rephrase this WB tag a little.
- Friends at the Table (Podcast): AuDy & Cassander Timeaus Berenice & Aria Joie & Mako Trig (FatT) — There's currently a discussion ongoing in this comment thread (link) about splitting vs not splitting Friends at the Table's seasons/settings. We would like to hear from as many nominators as possible! As mods, we don't have a particular preference for this fandom and would like to hear from people in the fandom what they think is best.
- The Expanse Series - James S. A. Corey: Michio Pa/Samantha "Sam" Rosenberg (The Expanse Series) — The name Samantha "Sam" Rosenberg appears to refer to the TV version of this character, while the book character is named Samara, is that the case or are we missing something?
- The Lord of the Rings - J. R. R. Tolkien: Amroth/Mithrellas/Nimrodel (LotR books) — Amroth and Nimrodel seem to be mention in a song in LotR but the tolkiengateway page for Mithrellas doesn't mention the LotR books. Is Mithrellas actually mentioned in the LotR books and the wiki page is incomplete? If not, this relationship might be better under Unfinsihed Tales or Crossover Fandom. (Although, I am unfamiliar with how Tolkien's works are usually split up, so please let me know if there's some fannish Tolkien norm I'm missing here!)
- The Lord of the Rings - J. R. R. Tolkien: Faramir & Mithrellas (LotR books) — The tolkiengateway page for Mithrellas doesn't mention the LotR books.
R. R. Tolkien: Imrazôr/Mithrellas (LotR books) — neither the tolkiengateway page for Mithrellas nor the the tolkiengateway page for Imrazôr mention the LotR books. Are these characters mentioned in the LotR books? If not, this relationship might be better under Unfinsihed Tales or Crossover Fandom. (Although, I am unfamiliar with how Tolkien's works are usually split up, so please let me know if there's some Tolkien fandom norm I'm missing here!)
Ao3 tagset nominations
- Danganronpa - Hope's Peak Arc: All tags — Hello, nominator! First, we're a little confused about what canon(s) this fandom nomination covers - do you mean Hope's Peak Series? Second, we would like to hear from you and others about whether or not we should split Danganronpa fandoms or combine them using the canonical "Dangan Ronpa Series" tag. It looks like we combined them last year.
- Dimension 20 (Web Series): All tags — There's currently a discussion ongoing in this comment thread (link) about splitting vs not splitting Dimension 20's seasons/settings. We would like to hear from as many nominators as possible! As mods, we don't have a particular preference for this fandom and would like to hear from people in the fandom what they think is best.
- Dimension 20: Solo Seasons: All Tags — There's currently a discussion ongoing in this comment thread (link) about splitting vs not splitting Dimension 20's seasons/settings. We would like to hear from as many nominators as possible! As mods, we don't have a particular preference for this fandom and would like to hear from people in the fandom what they think is best.
- Dimension 20: Spyre: All tags — There's currently a discussion ongoing in this comment thread (link) about splitting vs not splitting Dimension 20's seasons/settings. We would like to hear from as many nominators as possible! As mods, we don't have a particular preference for this fandom and would like to hear from people in the fandom what they think is best.
- Friends at the Table: The Divine Cycle: All tags — There's currently a discussion ongoing in this comment thread (link) about splitting vs not splitting Friends at the Table's seasons/settings. We would like to hear from as many nominators as possible! As mods, we don't have a particular preference for this fandom and would like to hear from people in the fandom what they think is best.
- Friends at the Table: The Divine Cycle: WB: Rigour!Mako post-C/W Finale (Friends at the Table: The Divine Cycle) — We're having a hard time figuring out what this means, so we need an explanation before we can accept or reject it.
- Harry Potter - J. K. Rowling: Delphi & Harry Potter (Harry Potter) — "Delphi" appears to be a nickname for Delphini from Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, not from the Harry Potter novels. I'm extremely hesitant to fold a character from a completely different medium into the tag for just the novels, so I don't think we're going to accept this, but I would like to hear from this nominator and other Harry Potter - J.K. Rowling nominators/requesters/offerers if they think Harry Potter and the Cursed Child counts under Harry Potter - J.K. Rowling or if they would like the fandoms split.
- Mission: Impossible (Movies): WB: The IMF through the years (Mission: Impossible) — We're unable to accept this WB tag because it's a prompt instead of just a concrete element of the canon to be worldbuilt around. We would accept tags like "WB: The Impossible Mission Force" or "WB: Founding of the Impossible Mission Force".
- Star Trek: Deep Space Nine: WB: Increasingly Outlandish Rumors About What Happens on Deep Space 9 (ST: DS9) — I love this tag's style, but unless it's canon that there are increasingly outlandish rumours, this phrasing is a little too much like a prompt. We'd be happy to accept "WB: Rumors About What Happens on Deep Space 9 (ST: DS9)"
- Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's: WB: Dark Signers (Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D’s) — This appears to a be a group. Nominator, what worldbuilding do you want about this group that isn't covered by switching this nomination to Solo: Dark Signers? For example, we'd accept a tag like "WB: Rumors About The Dark Signers" or "WB: Dark Signers Recruitment"
- Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's: WB: The Satellite (Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D’s) — The wiki mentions a city called "Satellite" but doesn't seem to call it the Satellite. Is this a nomination for the city, or is there a second thing called a Satellite in this canon?
- Yu-Gi-Oh! GX: WB: Dimension World (Yu-Gi-Oh! GX) — This appears to be the name of an arc in the anime per the wiki. Is "Dimension World" also the name of the alternate dimension the characters are pulled into, or does this refer to something else?
Rejected Tags
Google Forms nominations
- Dream SMP: WB: The Syndicate (Dream SMP) — The Syndicate is an organization, so we can't accept this tag as-is. We could accept as "Solo: The Syndicate" or we can change the tag. What concrete part of the Syndicate's place in the Dream SMP world are you curious about? For example, we could approve a tag like "WB: The Syndicate's Operations and Logistics" or WB: The Syndicate's Base of Operations"
- Sunshine - Robin McKinley: WB: Demons (Sunshine - McKinley) — This seems to be a group (although probably a very, very broad one) so we probably can't accept this tag unless demons aren't sentient in this canon. Is there something specific about demons you're particularly keen to get worldbuilding on? For example, we would accept a tag like "WB: Demon Society & Family Life" or "WB: Demon Manners & Etiquette"
- Sunshine - Robin McKinley: WB: Special Other Forces (Sunshine - McKinley) — This seems to be a group or organization of people, so we can't accept this WB tag as-is. Is there something about the Special Other Forces that you find particularly curious or want worldbuilding about? For example, we would accept a tag like "WB: Founding of the Special Other Forces" or "WB: Special Other Forces Recruitment"
Ao3 tagset nominations
- Campaign (Podcast): WB: Post-Canon (Campaign Podcast) — We won't accept WB tags that are just points in the canon timeline because points in the canon timeline aren't a concrete facet of the canon world. Does something happen at the end of canon to serious change the status quo, either for society at large or for the characters?
- Campaign (Podcast): WB: Zero is Venton Geelo (Campaign Podcast) — This seems like a prompt or a fan theory, rather than an element of the setting that could be worldbuilt around, because it seems like this is about Agent Zero's real identity. If so, we won't be able to accept this tag.
- Dimension 20: Spyre: WB: Werewolf Adaine Abernant (D20) — This is a prompt rather than a concrete piece of the canon universe, unfortunately. If this character is canonically turned into a werewolf and that werewolf version is a complete separate, sentient creature then this tag could be nominated as a Solo: tag. Otherwise, please request "Solo: Adaine Abernant" and use the optional details box.
- Star Wars Original Trilogy: WB: Luke Skywalker takes in younglings (Star Wars Original Trilogy) — This is a prompt rather than a concrete part of the canon universe, so we have to reject.
- Star Wars Original Trilogy: WB: the end of the war (Star Wars Original Trilogy) — This tag needs a little work! "The End of the War" is a time period rather than a direct worldbuilding request. Are you interested in civilian reconstruction? The treatment of troops coming home from battle & their reintegration into society? Additionally, there are arguably a couple wars in this period of canon, so if we could explicitly name the war in the tag, that'd be really helpful.
Rejected AO3 nominations above may not actually be rejected in the tagset yet, so nominators are welcome to get the slot back if they get back to their noms edit page before we find their tag(s) in the mess that is the AO3 backend. If we've already rejected a tag by the time we settle on a rephrasing with the nominator, we'll be happy to add in the new tag for them since they lost the slot!
If your nominations were rejected and are not listed here, they were incorrect or disallowed. Please review the nominations guidelines (link) or try out Google Form nominating.

Archive 81 nominator here. Aleister's House is indeed a sentient character. It is a supernatural being that takes on a form of endless strange rooms, hence most characters call it a house, similarly to other leviathans (The Curator for example, who is a museum). And beyond being clearly implied to be such, it does interact with other characters as a talking goldfish, so that should be pretty clear indication.

I would mildly prefer combined Dangan Ronpa Series, but if other nominators have strong feelings in favor of Hope's Peak Arc / v3 split I'm good with it.

DS9
"WB: Increasingly Outlandish Rumors About What Happens on Deep Space 9 (ST: DS9)"
if there's a small difference I missed, or if that was intentional, feel free to ignore this.

Mithrellas is alluded to in LotR, but not named directly. The information naming her and Imrazor is confined to draft material, mostly for the LotR appendices. When I looked through the app prior to nomming them myself in exchanges (honestly, to try and figure out where people would be looking for them to write), Mithrellas seemed to most frequently be requested under LotR and Imrazor was split evenly between LotR and Silm.
Unfinished Tales is not really used as a subfandom by itself, ime.
On Ao3, Mithrellas and Imrazor are canonicals under both LotR and the Silm. Personally, I nommed under LotR because I think their stories are more connected to the LotR stories, but I’d be willing to move them! I’m not sure they fit any better under Silm than they do LotR, but they just awkwardly don’t fit well with any of the categories Ao3 uses.

This explanation makes sense to me, thank you! We'll accept under the LotR books.

Thank you!

For "WB: The Syndicate", I think the best one for what I was going for would be "WB: The Syndicate's Operations and Logistics".
For WB: Cyberknife, i was aiming for the planned Cyberknife story arc that never ended up happening, and the character's polititical interaction with existing political structures, not a focus on the character as such. Would "WB: Cyberknife Conflict" work?

Addressing two of the clarifications:
- For the “Dimension World” tag, I meant the alternate dimension itself, not the season. Would something like “time spent in the alternate dimension” be preferable? Or maybe a “society in the alternate dimension”?
- For the “The Satellite” tag, I meant the city, which I think was referred to in the show interchangeably as Satellite/the Satellite? If this is still an acceptable WB tag, I could change it to “Satellite” for clarity, if that would be preferred.

Given these two explanations, I'm happy to accept the tags as-is — it sounds like they'll be perfectly clear to anyone else in the fandom, I now know what we'll be looking for if someone creates for those tags, and locations are of course excellent worldbuilding tags. Thanks!

(Anonymous) 2023-08-16 01:57 pm (UTC)(link)The long answer is that the server owner Dream has access to creative mode that is referenced throughout canon until he revoked his own access on his main account and enabled it on a secondary account for the purpose of server maintenance, and that secondary account DreamXD is considered a god figure (as is the other main server admin, Callahan) and both are involved in various lore events. Dream's access to creative mode/position as server admin is brought up as a justification for revering/fearing him by various characters, because the lines between OOC jokes and IC lore are particularly blurred in this case, and a lot of the former are treated as in-universe lore by creators after the fact.
I don't think the words "admin access" are ever used, so maybe it could be condensed down into just "WB: Access to Creative Mode"? I wanted to see exploration of how that access looks from an in-universe point of view, since deification of people who have it is canon and Dream's ability to use it is brought up by other characters in various lore events.

"Postcanon" is more iffy; the end of the series results in the protagonists joining the rebellion against the Empire. (But also, "Campaign (Podcast)" as a fandom tag encompasses both Campaign SW, which I assume the nominator meant, and the currently ongoing Campaign Skyjacks. If you accept that tag, it may be worth changing to "Post-Campaign Star Wars" or something.)

Some examples of canonical shenanigans: Catastrophic systems failure results in the captain and his senior staff getting turned into characters in a James Bond-style virtual reality LARP that another character is playing and they can't turn it off or everyone will die. The captain makes his senior staff drop everything in the middle of a galactic war to play baseball because his college archnemesis comes to town. A legacy character's mother comes to the station and accidentally gives everyone the horny virus during a giant festival. Three officers and their ship are shrunk to the size of a shoebox and have to save the day by flying inside another ship. The crew accidentally time travels back to Captain Kirk's era and has to save him from a bomb planted in a tribble (a creature that breeds faster than bunnies and looks like an oversized pompom). In one episode they get turned into game pieces in a life-size board game. The captain is canonically a prophet who doesn't want to be a prophet but has to put up with being one for diplomatic reasons. You get the idea haha.
I feel like there's SO much to be mined from the shenanigans specifically because so much wild stuff goes down. "WB: Gossip Regarding the Outlandish Events on DS9" would also encompass what I'm aiming for

1. That the tag is a concrete, canonical, in-universe thing, or at least something that's heavily implied.
2. That the tag is as unambiguous as possible -- not just so that requesters and offerers are on the same page, but so that my co-mod has an easy time checking completed works for the WB tag.
Describing the events as "shenanigans" concerns me because the word has implications of michevious trickery or underhanded conduct, which I don't think seems quite right for the events you've listed, and using "outlandish" implies that things are bizarre and unbelievable in a way I'm not sure is accurate for canon. Plus, I don't want to put my co-mod in the position of trying to judge whether a work created for this tag involves rumors/events that are outlandish enough.
