Nominations Clarification 3
Links: Nominations Form | Tagset | Relationship Field Nominations Guidelines | New Mediums Nomination Post
Nomination clarifications are queries and updates about tags we find confusing. The goal of nominations is to create a tagset of unambiguous, easy to understand tags that will be useful to participants and solidly within the scope of the exchange.
Tags are separated by query vs rejection notice, form vs AO3 nomination, and then by fandom. You can respond anonymously to this post or logged in. If you are not the nominator but have relevant fandom knowledge about something, please speak up! If you have questions about nominations not covered in this post, please ask!
Queries
Google Forms nominations
- A Charm of Magpies Series - K. J. Charles: WB: The Magpie Lord (Charm of Magpies) — Is the Magpie Lord a specific person? Would this nomination work better as a Solo: nomination?
- Original Work: Chosen One & General They Pull Out Of Retirement/General's Long-Suffering Significant Other (OW) — We are trying to avoid tags in the format A & B/C because we've found it's ambiguous whether or not the character in position A is meant to be involved in the / relationship. Are you looking for the Chosen One to be part of a romantic ship?
- Star Wars - All Media Types: Chirrut Imwe/Baze Malbus & Luke Skywalker — What parts of canon do you want the characters from? Without further input we'll assume Star Wars Original Trilogy for Luke and Rogue One for the rest
- Star Wars - All Media Types: Cassian Andor/Luke Skywalker — What parts of canon do you want the characters from? Without further input we'll assume Star Wars Original Trilogy for Luke and Rogue One for the rest
- Star Wars - All Media Types: Cassian Andor/Jyn Erso & Luke Skywalker — What parts of canon do you want the characters from? Without further input we'll assume Star Wars Original Trilogy for Luke and Rogue One for the rest
Ao3 tagset nominations
- Masters of the Universe: Revelation (TV 2021): tags involving Man-at-Arms and Sorceress of Castle Grayskull — Googling has indicated that these are titles rather than names and that different people might hold the titles during this run of He-Man. We would just like to confirm that, within the context of this fandom, these are unambiguous titles that can only possibly refer to one character?
- Masters of the Universe: Revelation (TV 2021): WB: Other Champions of Eternia (MOTU: R) — We have several questions about this nomination! "Other Champions of Eternia" seems to mean "any champion besides He-Man", but are you sure you want a WB: tag for this? It seems like it might be better as a Solo: Ambiguous Group tag, which would get you a gift about one or more non-He-Man champions, although you might need to think about if you want a work about one of the canonical previous champions (who based on this article live in Preternia after they die and appear in one or more episodes?) or if you'd also be open to original characters. In order to accept this as a WB: tag, we would need to clarify the phrasing to focus on something besides just the characters (for example, the selection process for champions, worldbuilding about Preternia, worldbuilding about something concerning champions and their wider place in society/history/culture...?)

Ao3 tagset nominations
- Barbie: Life in the Dreamhouse (Cartoon): all tags — Your tags were incorrectly capitalized, so they have been rejected on AO3. Because you did disambiguate, we have corrected them using our spreadsheet powers and batch loaded them into the tagset. We did not bring over your worldbuilding tag because we will be adding WB: Any tags for all fandoms at close of nominations, but please check that the rest of your tags are in the tagset.
- DCU (Comics): solo: Pamela Isley (dcu comics) — This tag was incorrectly capitalized, so it was rejected on AO3. Because you did disambiguate, we have corrected it on our spreadsheet and batchloaded it into the tagset for you.
- Doctor Who (2005): Ace McShane/Bill Potts (Doctor Who) — This relationship needs to be nominated under Crossover Fandom because it involves a character who does not appear in Doctor Who (2005)
- DuckTales (Cartoon 2017): Lena (Disney: DuckTales)/Webby Vanderquack (DT 2017) — Crossover tags must be nominated under Crossover Fandom
- Haikyuu!!: various Solo: tags — Your tags were incorrectly capitalized, so they have been rejected on AO3. Because you did disambiguate, we have corrected them using our spreadsheet powers and batch loaded them into the tagset. Please check that they are all there and please correctly capitalize your nominations in the future.
- 화이트 블러드 | Unholy Blood (webtoon): all tags — Your tags were incorrectly capitalized, so they have been rejected on AO3. Because you did disambiguate, we have corrected them using our spreadsheet powers and batch loaded them into the tagset. Please check that they are all there and please correctly capitalize your nominations in the future.
- ゴールデンカムイ | Golden Kamuy (Manga): various tags — Your tags were incorrectly capitalized, so they have been rejected on AO3. Because you did disambiguate, we have corrected them using our spreadsheet powers and batch loaded them into the tagset. Please check that they are all there and please correctly capitalize your nominations in the future.

ETA: So, in summary, I'd rather keep it as a WB nom, because that seems to be more consistent with what I was intending, but he is a specific person, so if you wanted to have it be a Solo tag instead, it wouldn't be the end of the world.

How about "WB: The Magpie Lord's Influence on Magic"? That seems generic enough to encompass what I'm thinking about, without making it about the character himself.

I'm good with making the tag for Man-at-Arms something like Duncan | Man-at-Arms (as that one seems more like a title. The Sorceress is not given another name (she had a name in the original series, but they haven't used it in this one), so I think that one is pretty unambiguous.
As far as the Other Champions, I'm one of the people interested in the idea that they were setting up Teela to be a Champion of Grayskull. I would be okay with either that, or one of the characters we see on Preternia, or an original character - although I'm planning to put the Teela idea in my letter. I'd be willing to go with whatever wording you think is best - either the group or the WB.
There's a lot of room to play with the concepts and only 5 episodes worth.
I am also the Lena/Webby nominator and it is NOT a crossover. For whatever reason, that's how the canonical tag comes up but Lena and Webby both definitely belong to the 2017 version of the show. Sorry for the confusion!

And sorry about the DT tag! Is this the right Lena, or are there two Lenas on the show?

Thanks for the adjustments! and yes, that is the correct Lena.

Wonderful Everyday has a lot of metafictional elements. "WB: Otonashi Ayana's Role (Wonderful Everyday)" is nominated as opposed to Otonashi Ayana herself as a character because she is an extremely unusual character who seems to operate on a different plane of existence from the rest of the cast. I'm specifically interested in how she interacts with the narrative of the story itself and how she seems to know a lot more about the plot of the story than the other characters - as opposed to her backstory or interactions with other characters in a narrative sense, and the potential for other characters to possibly eventually ascend to her level of understanding and what that might mean for the plot/structure of the story/literally the scope of the world itself as defined by Wonderful Everyday. There's been speculation/theory-crafting/debate in online discussions of Wonderful Everyday about what parts of the story are even "real" or "fake" because Otonashi Ayana specifically (and no other character to this extreme degree) and her role in the story really throws a wrench in a lot of worldbuilding stuff.
That said, if you think worldbuilding isn't the best choice for this tag, then changing it to "Solo: Otonashi Ayana (Wonderful Everyday)" is fine.
