My Gifts I am so fortunate to have received the very best gifts of the collection, but you are welcome to check them out as well.
azure as antediluvian song Fandom: Genshin Impact Rating: G Characters: Kazuha & Ayato Summary: “I would like to commission a sword,” Kamisato Ayato says to the man forging a sword. “I do not make swords,” says the man forging a sword. Why: Top-notch storytelling and loving character study. Not to mention the philosophical musings in Kazuha’s usual poetic style.
There was a time Fandom: Genshin Impact Rating: G Characters: Ganyu & Xiao Summary: After receiving a missive from a yaksha, Ganyu ventures into Liyue's wilds to investigate a new threat to Liyue's people. Why: Perfect character voices and exactly the kind of interaction we are denied in canon. I adore Ganyu’s portrayal as the wise, competent, and ancient creature she is.
Dr Stone emojis Fandom: Dr. Stone Media: Emojis Characters: Ishigami Senkuu & Shishiou Tsukasa Why: The most adorable emojis!! The characters’ expressions especially are hilarious and versatile, highly recommend using them to convey the exact nuance of your current feelings.
Other Recs I enjoyed many of these canon-blind, so you may too!
A Voyage With the Chip-Toothed Naturalist Fandom: Sunless Sea Rating: T Why: Well-written and fascinating journey into a wild and senseless sea, told in the journal entries of a naturalist bent on categorizing creatures that very firmly defy nature.
Lucky's Chance Fandom: The Sandman (Comics) Rating: T Characters: Delirium, Dream, OFC Summary: A veteran trying not to dream is visited by Delirium and Dream. Why: I enjoyed the writing and concepts in this a lot. Very cool use of the canon for an unconventional story.
outta me Fandom: La Barbe bleue | Bluebeard - Charles Perrault Rating: M Summary: Bluebeard's ship is legendary across the stars. He promised her the cosmos; she believed that she just wanted a ride. Warnings: Body Horror Why: Engrossing and unsettling sci-fi take on Bluebeard. The writing is evocative and lends itself to horror.
Immortality (means you get both death and taxes) Fandom: DCU Rating: T Characters: Alfred Pennyworth & Jason Todd, Gotham City & Alfred Pennyworth Summary: Alfred Pennyworth is who you want on your side when dealing with how to legally come back from the dead. Luckily, Gotham has forms for this. Why: Cool, subtle AU that seems eminently reasonable. Funny, sweet, and bureaucratic.
Angels & Scoobies Fandom: Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel: the Series Rating: T Characters: Angel Investigations & Scooby Gang Summary: The monster-hunting teams of LA and Sunnydale call each other sometimes, when the job gets tough. Why: Very fun ensemble fic with many delightful one-on-one interactions and a stealthy overarching plot. The character voices were spot on!
[Art] Spamdalalala Fandom: Actual Size - Edward Ruscha Rating: G Characters: Rogue Can of Spam Summary: Ready to eat—cold or hot. Why: Hypnotic and inscrutable.
