ficinabox | Assignment Swaps

Swaps is the part of the exchange where you can trade in 1k increments of your assignment for 1k increments of other assignments!* Requests for swaps are open until September 2nd and the mods will finalize the swaps over that weekend, so you should find out if your swap(s) were successful on the 7th at the latest. Swaps are voluntary, so you don't have to give up any part of your assignment if you don't want to. We also can't guarantee that you'll be able to swap, although the more people who send in swap requests the more likely it is!

Swaps are mostly for participants who've signed up and received an official assignment, but initial pinch hitters are invited to join in, and below non-participants might find the secret swapper section of interest.

(* The rest of this post is going to talk about wordcounts in increments of 1k, but obviously if you are a fanartist or podficcer or something it's equivalent wordcount. Just, that would get really wordy to write every time...and we need the sheet to do the swap math for us...)

To enter into swaps, we need the following information:

Your AO3 username exactly as it appears on your sign up.

If you are an initial pinch hitter who isn't signed up, please also provide your email.

What is the minimum amount of your current assignment that you want to keep?

If all your swapping dreams come true, we'll make sure you have this amount of your original assignment still assigned.

You can keep as much as 9k or as little as 0k. If you have no preference, put 0k.

You can only keep wordcount in 1k increments, even if your assigned recip has shorter length opt ins.

What other participants would you like to create for, how much would you like to create for them, and do you have any special notes?

We need the exact AO3 username of the participant(s) you would like to create for as it appears on their FIAB requests.

We need to know the amount of wordcount (in increments of 1k) that you would like to create for each participant listed.

If you have any special notes, we need those too! For example if you want to swap to someone to make them a map, we'd need to know you need to swap for a minimum of 2k, not 1k.

Please format the swap request information in the following way:

Initial Pinch Hits

Initial pinch hits are first-come-first-serve and will be assigned ASAP. However...initial pinch hits can be offered and requested for swaps! This includes if a non-participant picks up an IPH — they can come straight to this post after they confirm they've been assigned all or part of an IPH and enter into swaps like a participant would.

Secret Swappers

Recent events have shown us that there are some people out there who want firm, external pressure to guide their treating hopes and dreams! If you're one of those people who loves assignments but doesn't love signing up — if you're downright yearning to treat someone and would love to be held accountable for that treat — then we'd like to invite you to try to pick up a SECRET SWAP PINCH HIT.

A secret swap is basically a pinch hit that we don't technically need, but it will make a swap work and therefore dreams will come true and wonderful fanworks will be created. Imagine:

Participant A is assigned to Participant B, but wants to swap for 1k of Participant C.
None of the other participants want 1k of Participant B, which would usually mean Participant A can't swap and has to keep all 10k of their Participant B assignment...
....but LUCKILY there is a non-participant out there who is IN LOVE with Participant B's requests. They let us know they'd be willing to take a 1k pinch hit for Participant B, even though we don't technically need to send Participant B to pinch hit — they really want to write 1k for Participant B and would probably do it anyway.
The non-participant becomes a secret swapper and is assigned to write 1k for Participant B by the deadline, successfully picking up a pinch hit so secret it was never even going to be posted! Meanwhile, Participant A gets to bask in a successful swap and write 9k for Participant B and 1k for Participant C.

So, even if you're not signed up for the exchange if you have a participant in your heart you really want to write for (or several, if the requests in your fandom were super good this round!) please contact us via email (ficinaboxmod@gmail.com) and let us know the AO3 username of the participant with the prompts of your dreams, and what amount of wordcount you'd be willing to secretly swap for them, in the dead of night, to turn the treat you're dying to make into an authorized assignment.

Just like the other swaps, we can't guarantee you'll get the assignment you ask for, but the more people that ask, the easier it will be for everyone to get a delicious smorgasboard of prompts.
