This sounds great—I'm always looking for more French-language media and messy female leads. Unfortunately I don't go so great with horror/thrillers; I had to pass on TMA because it was way too tense for me, and Hannibal was pretty much pushing my limits with regards to how much gore I could handle. I'm happy to give the first episode a try and then go from there, but could you give me an idea of how it rates against those canons?

I would say it's less intense than either of those canons. Most of the murder-of-the-week plots are more eerie than outright horror. I haven't seen Hannibal, but from osmosis I would say ZB is way less gory and also doesn't have the gaslighting component. Honestly, the spookiness is much more in ~vibe than actual plot; the overarching plots of the show are a teenager girl who's been missing for months, corruption in local politics, and illegal waste dumping. There is also a legit supernatural element, but it's more in the background for most of the show.

I feel like the first ep gives you a pretty good idea of the overall tone of the show if you're wary. Good luck! I would love more people discover this show. :)
